Married, living and working in Zug, husband living and working in Lausanne

Hi, I secured a job in Zug and I am going to relocate there in order to be close to the office.

My husband and I live in Lausanne but this is going to change. My husband will stay in Lausanne where he is currently also working.

1. Where and how would I expect to be taxed (in accordance to which of the two canton's tax rates)?
2. Where will my husband be taxed?

Note that we expect to take turns - one weekend I'll visit my husband in Lausanne, the other weekend, he'll visit me in Zug, if that makes any difference to the situation. Note that we are not legally or else separated and do not consider to.

Thanks a lot for your input.

Re: Married, living and working in Zug, husband living and working in Lausanne

Someone in my office had his main house in Geneva , where his wife and children lived and his wife worked in Geneva.
He rented a small apartment in Chur that he used 5 nights a week.
He returned to Geneva every weekend.
He worked in canton of Zug.
However he was taxed as living in Geneva.
He did try to get this changed to Zug , but it was not allowed.

Tha KS for your reply. Note that I'll be staying on average 6 to 7 days a week in my apartment in Zug. My husband will be also staying on average 6 to 7 days at his place in Lausanne. How would one determine e where the center of life for me and for him is found? No kids btw.

When we arrived to work and live in Zug we had to register (and pay the fee to register &#128512.
So maybe it's based on the where you are registered to live ?

Re: Married, living and working in Zug, husband living and working in Lausanne

I read somewhere that we could each be taxed in each one's proper canton of residence+work but according to the rate of a married couple. I cannot confirm that, however, neither how this works since as a married couple we must be taxed as a fiscal singularity, hence the thread.

Re: Married, living and working in Zug, husband living and working in Lausanne

usually, the tax authorities look, where the centre of living is - in your case they probably say Lausanne since you only move to Zug because of your job but your husband lives in Lausanne. If I were in your position, I would call up the local tax office in Lausanne and Zug and ask how they handle cases like yours. Get their answers in written. I reckon this would be the easiest and most secure way in order to avoid any bad surprises.
Good luck!

I'm going to go with Vaud. They will fight to keep you.

PS you should work out which account you want to keep and ask that the other be deleted as double accounts are not allowed.
