| | | If I buy a Laptop from Dell uk and get delivered here, will swiss impose charges?
Hi
Want a UK keyboard (only here for 3-6 months) so want to order a laptop from Dell uk rather than dell.ch.
If I go on the dell uk website and buy a laptop (approx £1500) and put down my Zurich address what other charges will be imposed when it is delivered?
Thanks

I think it should be about 7.6% tax plus about 50CHF, so about 300CHF. See if the Dell site will ditch British VAT if they are shipping to a non EU address. That should save you about 500CHF.

I think they will add 7,6% VAT + Customs fee. More info at http://www.post.ch/EN/index/uk-priva...#mwst-erhebung |

I had a look at www.dell.ch a few weeks ago and saw that some models
can be ordered with an english keyboard. I don't remember which one anymore but have a look.

Cool, as looking for a XPS. But rather stick with uk for simplicity as:
- additional disks etc will be english
- im told some basic versons of vista dont have english language pack (colleague ordered from dell.ch)
- rather have UK warrant then swiss as not sure if its internationally transferable
Thanks

I have bought a dell from the .ch website, and my Vista (on request...I had a few emails between me and Dell.ch) was in English, etc. So, write them an email with your special request, and they were very friendly and corresponded back in English etc. Good luck

Dell's warranty used to be transferable internationally. I'm sure you can find this info on the website to make sure it still is.

Thanks | | | | | I tried to purchase an Inspiron 1501 a year or so ago on the UK Dell site and requested an English keyboard and English software (by that I meant software which addressed me in English).
The UK internet site refused my order but asked me to call them and I was transferred to a Swiss office with an English speaking lady. She was very helpful and the laptop arrived at my Swiss address on time. I paid in Stirling by CC. No VAT charged, just TVA, and it was cheaper than the equivalent gross UK price, delivery free in Switzerland too.
BUT problems then materialised with my wireless broadband internet connection and I got no help from Dell. They blamed my internet provider, Swisscom. In the end I went to a small local high street computer shop who told me there was incompatability between my English Vista windows programme and my American firewall software supplied by Dell. They pointed out that I had given the wrong instructions to Dell in asking for English software because Dell would interpret that as English 'speaking' and hence feel free to supply American firewall software.
All is well now using Firefox protection but it cost me!
Next time I will buy in Switzerland.
Best of luck

I have an XPS with SG keyboard and English OS. Dell switches between letting you order English OS and not letting you.
Call them. Or get them to contact you.
It's simple. They are flexible.

I work in the IT group of a Dell only organization and often place orders. If an option isn't selectable on the site for a different keyboard layout or OS, you can always place the order and then phone them and they will be happy to make the changes for you. Support materials will come in the chosen OS language.
And yes, the warranties are transferable internationally. It's especially easy when transfering between EMEA countries where Dell already has "Direct" service (most major Euro countries). Notebooks are always covered whilst traveling and warranties can be transfered between persons and countries. You just need to notify Dell with the form available here: http://www.dell.com/globaltagtransfer
Also, sign-up for their newsletter and nearly every week you'll receive a 10% savings coupon in your e-mail. https://ecomm.euro.dell.com/myaccoun...urce_id=820003 | | This user would like to thank keandro for this useful post: | |

I'm in the market for a new notebook and have been considering an XPS. | | | | | I bought an XPS 1530 about a month ago and it's a great machine. The build quality is excellent and it has a lovely feel to it, the keyboard is very smooth and positive in operation, the screen is outstanding being very crisp and clear. My machine has 4GB RAM, 6MB Cache and a 200GB Hard drive, I'm running Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 Ultimate. All in all it's an excellent package, just one niggle, don't believe the stuff about the audio quality, sound reproduction is fine but the built-in speakers are small and a bit naff - I don't use them anyway, I run my music from the Laptop using a NAS and Logitech Z5500 speakers (quite good for annoying the neighbours).
Would I buy a Dell again? Certainly, the XPS is a lovely machine.

I used dell.ch to price out an XPS and when configuring it, it gave me the option to choose a GB/Ire QWERTY keyboard and English language Vista. The site will be in German or French depending which you choose, but it's very similar to other Dell sites so you should be able to muddle your way through to find what you want.

I've an M1330 and it's excellent. It's T7500 with 3Gb RAM and runs Vista quite nicely (SP1 helps). I also have the LED screen rather than the traditional LCD and have the larger battery.
I have an SMU card and can get over 4 hours whilst internet-connected.
The only issue I've had was that I trashed the 250Gb SATA drive; I suspect I had some influence on this happening - it was replaced next day by Dell and they would've sent a tech to install it and restage the machine had I needed it.
As Louis Wu states, internal speakers are limited - but then again, I would not expect anything else from internal speakers!
Polorise also has an M1530; I think nksyoon also has an M1330 like me. You can pick up some chat about those here.....

Until I bought an iMac last year, I had only owned Dells and have been generally happy with them. I was looking for a bit of a change and went for the Mac. So far, I'm happy with that for a home machine. However, I've been looking for a notebook for travel and the XPS M1330 (LED of course) seems to be a good machine for that.
Lob - is it the 6-cell or 9-cell battery you're running? I'm trying to figure out whether the extra cordless time is worth the extra weight for me.
