Swiss Tax form completion for UK Students

This year I got 2007 tax forms, for the first time, for my 2 children, who just started going to universities in the UK. Unfortunately I ignored the forms, as I normally add their details to my own tax form which are completed by our accountant. To our surprise we have now received "estimates" of their income quickly followed by a "Definitive Rechnung" for CHF 775 each! I assume we have an opprotunity to protest this and submit their 2007 tax forms?

So now we are attempting to fill in the forms which are very complicated for a Auslander with limited German! My accountant told us that we simply had to fill in the form with '0' for the income and detials of their (little) weath. Of course he offered to do this for us (at a nice fee), but we felt it must be quite simple.

However, on reviewing the forms, we are non-plussed at ther various categories to fill in. There must be a very easy way to fill in the forms for a Student without any employment or income. Is there an English translation of the Steuer Wegleitung anywhere? Has anyone done the same for their student children?

We've checked websites, forms, software, everything...and there seems there is no advise re student tax returns. Anyone help us here?

Re: Swiss Tax form completion for UK Students

The period to challenge a tax estimate is usually 30 days. It's regulated at the municipal level, but I haven't found a number on Adliswil's tax FAQ page. But there is a hint that canton Zurich offers a tax declaration guideline in the national languages, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Albanian and Serbo-Croatian. You can order it here or send an email to integration at ji.zh.ch
