Concept of Tax Returns in Swiss

Hi All,
My details, I am L Permit holder working in Geneva from an Indian IT company.
I came in Swiss in Oct 2005.

I am a bit confused and worried about the exact concept of TAX RETURNS in Swiss.

At the begining of 2005 I have received some 2-3 letters (all in French ) saying
1. Certificate of Salary.
2. Receipt of Impot (Tax)
3. Swiss Life Insurance letters

I am a bit confused on what is the exact process after receiving these letters.
Are these letters like P60 (UK) or Form 16 (India) which we get in UK / India?

Can anyone please help.
Thanks in advance.

If you carry the L permit, you will in all likelihood be taxed at source (i.e. the employer deducts and pays the applicable income tax for you - which the tax receipt will attest.

The life insurance is actually your private pension scheme to which both you and your employer contribute. You can access these savings either for real estate investment purposes or when leaving Switzerland (or going the independent route). IN case you choose to contribute more than what has already been automatically deducted from your salary, that slip will show you what is the maximum amount you can invest into the scheme. That amount is tax-deductible.

I don't have the faintest idea what the Indian Form 16 is, but I can tell you that other than filing the forms in your favorite folder, there's nothing else to do .

Yes, I am paying tax only in Swiss and not anywhere else.
Swiss tax is deducted at source from my monthly salary.

Hi Vishy you should have two of these documents at the top left one will say for the tax declaration and the other for your records. Well actually it will say this in a non-English language but hey you get the idea. The one stating for the tax declaration you should keep safe...

If you have not until now received any tax return documents for 2006 you are not likely to get them. You can apply at the local tax office to get them. If your salary is below 120K you should consider carefully before filling them out as you might get a shock. Only if you are able to reduce your contributions should you do this. Above 120K and you need to fill them out. For further information search the forum I have written plenty on this before...
Richard, well I went through most of your posts related to filing returns..As i see there is a good chance that I may end up paying more if I file returns....and I may be needing a accountant for the same to save the extra amount.

well here is my case I am 24(unmarried) working in IT(permanent job) with a gross sal of 80K. I am on a L-Permit which is getting renewed.
As I see in pay-slip, the deductions are :
- AHV ~ 5.05 %
- ALV ~ 1.00 %
- Quellensteuer ~ 8.78 %
Apart from this my employer deducts for pension plan as well.

Now the problem is I am in a situation where I have to get the original returns of my earnings in Switzerland. I need it for some legal process in my country.

any advice?? Should I take help from an accountant?? and wats the chance I get screwed and pay more tax???

I think what you're looking for is the Lohnausweiss - that is the statement of what you're earning (retrospectively of course)
