Entertainment Tax

Hi Tax Gurus,

I am conducting a star show in Winterthur. I would like to know if i am liable for entertainment tax and if so at what rate. This is a cultural show with film stars from India. Any input would be helpful.

cheers

but if he did that, he won't be able to use the "but-somebody-on-English-Forum-told-me-I-don't-have-to-pay-any-tax" excuse...

Hi yes this what exactly i was looking at. please make sure that anyone who suggests that that i dont need to pay any tax put there official name and address so that i quote.

i did check with the winterthur but they were not clear on who needs to pay and who doesnt. May be it is because of my German

Re: Entertainment Tax

SUISA will help you in English if you play music or have musicians at your event who/that are registered with them.

The city is your contact point for noise rules and food inspection if you serve beverages and food (the inspectorate's interest will depend on the size of the event). Usually there is an official maximum of persons allowed in rooms for events, you can check the rental contract or ask the renter about that.

Hi,

We have done this registering the event with the city and the police and informed them about the number of people expected to attend. But the thing is that worries me is the entertainment tax. I checked with the SUISA and it doesnt seem to affect us as this is not a music event

What will the film stars do exactly? Is this an informal "meet and greet" kind of event maybe even without a stage, or will you show movies?

Skits, mimicry, a few songs and Dances from the film stars and it is a ticketed event

Re: Entertainment Tax

According to Suisa you have to send them a precise list of the music in advance and they then decide how high the fee will be, depending on the amount of music whose copyright holders are registered with Suisa, and the nature of the event.
