Then procrastinate no longer. Can't imagine us staying below 1.80 too long.

Time to fx-it all and ship it home to do my bit to stimulate the economy.
Well it might sponsor a few beers and a meal out

Predicting FX rates is a mug's game but I have to agree. I can't think of a single reason why sterling is so undervalued versus the Swissie. I can understand the drop vs the dollar and to some extent against the euro but the size of the decline versus the Swissie has me stumped.

You Sir are clearly an optimist

I worry more about these things being temporary and reversible. I am sure some of it may be ignorance and stupidtiy on my behalf, but I struggle to understand the rationality behind such short sharp moves.

Instead I will make the most of some short term drinking and am sure the other half will have decided I am good for some shopping when I am next back in the UK

Re: Gbp/chf..wow 1.76

Yeah, just got back from the UK and had £200 left over. Was going to change it back into CHF, but fortunately checked the exchange rate at Luton Airport, and decided to blow it in duty free instead.

Told my GF, who goes to the UK a lot, that this is probably a good time to buy pounds.

Swiss info predicts a rise in interest rate in December. This will no doubt weaken the Franc vs the pound. Will be changing my Xmas spending money before then.

Do you have a link? I cannot find it on the Swissinfo pages.

Yes the Aussie dollar has been hammered. 30% down from a few months ago. Time to change or wait, that is the question.

I don't get your point, unless these English companies are charging in CHF.

Re: Gbp/chf..wow 1.76

Sales are sales, as long as they get their money in pounds it makes no difference how much we pay for those pounds. And since the lower pound makes shopping more attractive, it's missing out on a market opportunity. In my opinion.

I thought that higher interest rates lead to a stronger currency? Can anyone confirm?

Otherwise the exchange rate may have more to do with the sinking pound than the swiss franc.

From an investment point of view, an increased rate is of course better and would increase the net present value of anyone swapping GBP for CHF. Great Britain had admitted it's in recession and it's not alone. The swiss franc is historically viewed as being a "safe" currency and therefore it always strengthens when times are hard in the financial markets. I imagine the GBP will fall further against the CHF over the next few weeks in spite of it gains in the last few days.
