Tax Returns in Swiss and UK

Hello everyone,

I need your advice with regards to tax returns in Geneva and UK. I received a questionnaire from the CH tax authorities. I think it was requesting some info to determine if I should be taxed at source.
Now I received 2 letters:

1-From Administration fiscale cantonale: Concerne-Impots Cantonaux et Communaux 2008/1. They sent me 10 payment slips with this letter and 2 copies.

2-From: Same as above. Ref-impot a la source. It reads as:

Nous vous informons que vous n'etes plus assujetti a limpot a la source des le premier jour du mouis qui suit la reception de ce courrier. Nous vous prions de bien vouloir aviser votre employeur et lui remettre la copie de cette lettre.
...and another copy.

Now my situation is as follows:

- I have an L permit starting from 01/02/2008 and expiring 31/01/2009
- I get paid from UK in sterling to my UK bank account. I keep my UK address. I pay normal UK taxes on everything.
- I am British and Turkish dual national. I have savings in both countries which I get interest and pay base taxes.
- I claim expenses I have here in CH

I need to fill a tax return by 31/01/2009 in UK and in CH.

What do I need to do? Can I tell UK and TR that I pay swiss tax only and claim the automatically deducted taxes back? Will that benefit me?

I am due to leave Geneva by 31/01 as well to work in germany for couple of years. I also have offers here in switzerland. From tax purposes, what should I expect to pay in Swiss ( a rough percentage)? Also if I start working in Germany (again paid from UK, same situation as I am in now), do I need to pay more taxes as I heard Germany tax rates are high.

Many thanks for your advice in advance

Re: Tax Returns in Swiss and UK

Residents in Switzerland are taxable here on their worldwide income and worldwide assets. Totally irrelevant are your nationality, your employers location and where your bank accounts are.

You may be eligible for avoiding double taxation. That depends on the pertinent treaties between Switzerland and the other countries.

Taxes are definitely higher in Germany. You can determine your Swiss tax liability using an internet tax calculator.
