claiming back the VAT

Hi,

I am sorry, probably similar things have been asked here already many times, but i didnt find when i tried to search...I bought a laptop for 350 € in EU and the sales person filled in the global refund cheque form, which i need to stamp at the airport before i leave the country. But what happens after that? I need to bring it to the customs in Zürich i suppose, but where will i get the EU VAT (in my case 22 %) back and do i need to pay some "admin" fee in the customs of CH? I am leaving tomorrow morning, so not much time to find out...

thanks!
Mari

Use the search function of this forum: VAT reclaim, tax free shopping

There have been several topics on this matter, with useful information

Hi,
...
Mari
usually you do it all at the border. you get the form stamped at the EU side, the you walk across the border to the CH side and show them the form and the product (usually) and they then charge you the CH tax 7.6% and stamp your form. you then send the form back to the shop and they reimburse you the 22%.

usually there is a small admin fee 5/10/15 CHF for their hassle.

if you are already in ZRH then a trip to the airport and finding the customs office will solve the CH tax side. or perhaps there is somewhere in HB?

Re: claiming back the VAT

It seems to depend on the shop, at least in Finland. First time the shop had a deal with Global Refund company and they took a high fee for refund. 2nd time in another shop i managed to do it so that i received a normal receipt stating tax free sales and got a stamp in the customs at the airport and got back the whole VAT in my next visit in the same shop, much better
