Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

For trademark infringement? That reeks a little of desperation and the hope that PissedConsumer would just curl up and give in to a legal threat.

Is there anywhere we can donate to their legal costs?

Lots of flowers; actually if you look at the people who sent the flowers then it gives you a good list of reliable adviser companies

It is indeed remarkable.
11th and 12th October were especially busy fawning days in North Korea.

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

All fawning comments from his staff I see.

I recently met one of the Da Beer advisors in a social setting.
Nice enough bloke, but typical used car/mobile phone salesman.
Very reluctant to speak about his job due to all the animosity he gets, I wonder why that is?

His key plan was to get out of CH and go somewhere where it is easier to get sales.
So anyone who expects customer service from this guy can forget about it.

Oh yes, I asked if he was an IFA in the UK, how he laughed.

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

Reading this thread in full, I'm very struck by the amount of corruption that exists in certain parts of the Financial Industry.

There are real cowboys out there. Thiefs and crooks. And there's lots of them

If my industry - commerical aviation - operated like this we would be killing 000s of passengers daily!

For my file and maybe for others, here are some of the useful websites I found thanks to this thread

Unauthorised FSA firms:

http://www.fsa.gov.uk/doing/regulate...thorised.shtml

Unauthorised Overseas firms

http://www.fsa.gov.uk/pages/Doing/Re...overseas.shtml

A "How to avoid" guide

http://www.shareview.co.uk/markets/P...ams_jun08.aspx

Take care out there - people want your money. They might not be coming in via your Balcony, but they can do a lot more damage...

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

Thanks for that very pertinent post with very useful information.

It's worth remembering, though, that the FSA lists of unauthorised firms do not include all British or foreign firms which do not have FSA authorisation. Take the second company referred to in post 208, for example. Registered as a company in Switzerland (Federal Commercial Registry, company website) and in the UK (company check, Companies House) but not listed in the FSA register, so not authorised by the FSA. The UK company's registered office is courtesy of an accountancy firm that provides this service to several companies while the Swiss company's registered office is at an address that is home to multiple companies and has been used in the past by boiler rooms. The company owner used to work for one of the main players in this industry.

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

The British Financial Services Authority - note: not Swiss - has the following to say on their homepage:

"This warning list includes unauthorised overseas firms that the FSA has received complaints about in respect of their activities and/or the FSA has reason to believe they are involved, or have been involved in, activities that contravene section 19 and/or 21 of FSMA.

Such firms are often involved in ‘boiler room’ activities and pose a high degree of risk to consumers. They frequently engage in tactics including cold-calling members of the public offering shares that later turn out to be worthless or high risk. The callers can be very persistent and extremely persuasive. If you are cold-called by an unauthorised overseas firm in relation to stocks or shares, you should be extremely careful. If you are contacted in such a manner, the FSA advises that you simply terminate the telephone call – the most effective protection against such unauthorised firms is to have nothing to do with them." [My emphasis]

"The list of unauthorised firms is by no means exhaustive as new names are regularly added. The absence of a firm’s name does not necessarily mean they can be safely dealt with. Consumers need to be aware of the dangers that are posed by such unauthorised entities.

Further guidance and information on the dangers posed by such firms can be found on
Consumer Information.

Compensation Guidance

If you have been contacted by an unauthorised overseas firm, it would be of assistance to the FSA if you would provide some information on your dealings with that firm by completing our on-line reporting form."

See the above linked homepage for the current and expanding list.

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

Thanks for the kind words - I should add a Proviso.

I am clueless about Finance.

e.g.
Swissair Shares, British Airways Shares, UK Endowment Policy (ooer Missus) with Sun Alliance - I've lost thousands when frankly speaking I should be retired by now...

Anyone got the LOTTO numbers?

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

As shown here, the Swiss/UK financial advisory company referred to above is promoting the products of this company, which was set up by the Beers.

This is no surprise, since the financial advisory company (a shown in logos on websites here and here) is a member of a network owned by the Beers.

The company's South African owner has been providing investment advice since 2007 and established a company of the same name (not registered with FSA) in the UK last year.

An entertaining read. I particularly enjoyed the debate on the value of a university degree. Perhaps if the author had one, he'd be capable of writing comprehensible, grammatically correct sentences, and he may understand that debates normally counterpose more than one viewpoint.

And people actually entrust their life savings to these numbskulls?!

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

Funny enough, as more people spend as more careless they are. Just go on any real estate site and read what people bought without proper inspecting it! Unpaid bills from pre- pre- owners, fundamental issues in words sense, like foundations completely rotten, roof collapsing and so on. But bought with cloudy blue eyes. It looked so nice! The very same people close their eyes on a superb buy because the bed room has the wrong color. Something so easy to change and cheap to change too!

Just in one I have to agree, a real brilliant spirit gets suppressed in our uniforming schooling system. Teachers don't like when students are too brilliant. They like average, so we trim for average. However, out of a million brilliant spirits only a view emerge as successful.

Re: Beware Financial Advisors on the Prowl!

I got thoroughly sick of the attention I was getting from these... what was the word used earlier - oh yes - "Turds".
I called them in the end - they were mighty pleased and surprised after grilling them about where they had gotten my work, private and mobile numbers from!??
I told them not only did I know of their company but their office was just 3mins walk away from mine and if they did not remove my name and numbers from their DB and stop calling me, they would be meeting me in person the next time I walk by.

I loved his employment history, really builds my confidence level in that company by the quality of the people that ooze to the top...10 years running a windshield repair/replacement shop, 10 months sales "director" and then onto Senior Financial Consultant for Guardian Wealth Management. I never knew windshield replacement was such a solid grooming ground for financial consultants.

I had one of those guys from Guardian try to latch onto me in Frankfurt. His big pitch was selling monthly payment investment funds based on companies that buy up peoples life insurance policies for a fraction of their payout value and then wait for them to die to cash in the full value. Everything of course sitting in the offshore tax haven of the Isle of Mann for your tax avoidance investing security.

Bunch of vultures feeding off peoples financial troubles and the fees were quite impressive...for them
