Customs Allowances

I've just been reading up on customs limits as I'm planning a food shop in France. I found this link in another thread:

http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_pri...x.html?lang=en

Just one question. Is there any limit on the amount of cheese I can bring back (other than the overall 300CHF limit)? The link mentions cream, butter, milk and milk products but specifically says "without cheese and quark". Does that mean cheese is unrestricted? It seems strange that cheese would be unrestricted when there are plenty of Swiss cheeses on the market. I thought the reason for these limits was to protect home grown/made products.

Re: Customs Allowances

Just under the table in your link it says
Quote:
Foodstuffs not listed (cheese, fish, etc.) are not subject to maximum amounts within the scope of the tax-free categories

Yes, but I find the difference pretty obvious: Swiss cheese is good, tastes differently from foreign cheeses and while expensive is not priced "out of this world" as for example beef. So consumers will still buy it while the limits prevent them from importing stuff that they would stop buying locally... since there is not really a difference between French and Swiss milk or meat.
