any interest in 'Investing 101" ??

I see a lot of posts here from people asking for basic advice on Investing.

I am not a banker or an investment adviser; I am an engineer by training, but have been successfully managing my own investments for 20 years. I see the financial marketplace as a logical game, and it bothers me that a million people live off the misinformation and deception that is rampant.

So here's what I am asking... Would anyone be interested in hearing about how simple and logical investing is ?

I am not selling anything, and not offering to manage anyone's money. I will not recommend any stocks or funds. Nor will I recommend someone else to manage your money. All i want to talk about is how simple and logical it is, and how to cut through all the crap you hear from the so called experts.

If there's sufficient interest, we can talk about venue and dates.

Re: any interest in 'Investing 101" ??

I remember a few years ago, that the most succesful investment group was some retired people.

They had an incredibly easy strategy.

Full parking lot in front of Walmart ? -> We buy Walmart shares.

Budweiser Beer sold out ? -> We buy Anheuser Busch shares and so on.

Doc.

I am also an engineer by profession, and have been successfully managing mine and my father's investments for the last 5 years. But even I can learn from someone with your experience. I would also be interested in this initiative and also getting to know like minded individuals who are interested in Investing. Please also check this post for Investment clubs for beginners: Where to Find Investment Clubs for Beginners

I totally agree that the financial advisory industry thrives on misinformation, even here in Switzerland. Investments should be managed by oneself after reading some of the classic books on Investing. I would gladly tell people which books I've read if there is interest.

Re: any interest in 'Investing 101" ??

thanks everyone for the interest.

I think we have a large enough group for it to be worthwhile... any sugestions on a venue?

(and no, I wasn't planning on doing this online...)

if anyone has acceess to a small meeting room with a beamer, that would be ideal, but we could do without the beamer too.

I am pretty flexible about the timing.

Re: any interest in 'Investing 101" ??

I belong to the Zuriberg Toastmasters club in Zurich, and we regularly hold meetings at the Blue Monkey. They have two conference rooms, and I can inquire about a free date. They might allow us to use their rooms free, the only catch is that they expect everyone to order a meal during the meeting, and meals are about 30-35 CHF per head.
