Applying for a Credit card - new in the country

What is your experience with credit card applications in CH. Are they refused if you've just got a job and new address in the country or do you generally get them approved? (assuming you have CH nationality or B/C permit).

There are already a couple of threads about credit cards, can you search to see if you can find the info you want? If you still have questions come back and ask.

Re: Applying for a Credit card - new in the country

I had no trouble getting a credit card from my (Swiss) bank (it was UBS) once I gave them a copy of my permit.

No issues for me. As long as you are employed, I think you should be fine. I applied mine when I opened my account along with my salary details and got it in a few weeks time.

My bank (UBS) told when when opening the salary account that I can only apply for a credit card when I have the B-permit. So far I ended up with a L-permit and still waiting for bank replies. But as long as you are employed the bank shouldn't make any trouble.

Horseshit.
I got an credit card from UBS on an "L" (after about 10 months).
My friend got one within a month of arriving in Switzerland with an "L" permit.

The branch do not make the decision - there is a separate card unit that will decide.

Re: Applying for a Credit card - new in the country

i had trouble with UBS so I went to the Miles and more site of credit suisse miles-and-more.ch and applied no worries, just card is a tad expensive.

Don't know how you would fare with the free supercard from Coop issued by Credit Suisse or Migros issued by GE Capital.

Re: Applying for a Credit card - new in the country

I'm 22, been in Zurich for just over 3 months now with an L permit, i went to UBS on the Banhoffstrasse (not sure if i spelt that right ) i was able to open a salary account, savings account and also a Credit card. The only thing they wanted from me for the Credit Card was a proof of employment.

I have a B permit and opened an account with UBS. I received a credit card from them right after a week.

Non-EU, B Permit, UBS - they asked for a fixed deposit to cover my credit limit.
