Tax at Source and being married

I have just calculated the cost of being married in Switzerland for us, a double income couple, both taxed at source: 10,000 CHF in additional taxes !

I have just checked the Geneva tax directives, it states " Lorsque les époux faisant ménage commun ... compte tenu du
revenu total du couple...".

I am intrigued by this "faisant menage commun" bit. Is it therefore possible to rent a room in a neighbouring canton and claim separate domiciles to avoid being taxed on a combined basis? Has anyone ever tried this?

My interpretation is: Joint taxation when married and not (court order) separated. Otherwise, all married people would be renting a room somewhere.

Also what permits do you have, ie spouse is dependent on husbands permit or vice versa, both have to live together as a condition of the permit, although if EU you can both move cantons together without any problem. BTW can you really get a room for 10K?

Re: Tax at Source and being married

Do you count 10k on top of what you both individually pay with tax category A ( as singles)?
If yes, then don't ask for rectification..
