Euro Credit Card

Hi all,

quick question: I need some advice on where to subscribe for a convenient credit card in Euro. I need this only once in a while (e.g. booking flights, paying for hotels, etc.)

Do you have any suggestions? Ideally free, am happy to open a Euro Bank Account with any bank.

Thanks!

Re: Euro Credit Card

Simple answer to a simple question: See your bank in the UK, if that is
where you are... at least your location shows so.

If you happen to be in Switzerland, then contact your bank. Most will be
more than happy to give you a credit card in any currency you wish
for.

Re: Euro Credit Card

Sorry to complicate the answer, but are you sure you need a Euro credit card? If you're only making occasional purchases, will the fees charged for the card and the hassle of ensuring you have Euros in the bank ready to pay the card statement be worth it?

Why not just use your existing GBP or CHF (residence-dependent) card and pay the converson fee (about 1%) for each purchase?

Re: Euro Credit Card

Sorry still have to update my profile ;-) I have already moved to Switzerland and have Euros that I will transfer here. For this reason am looking for a Euro based credit card. And before asking my bank, wanted to ask if anyone knew which one was the most convinient (mainly lower fees). Thanks for your help!

Re: Euro Credit Card

I think that credit card is currency-independent. I have credit card assigned to a euro bank account, but I shopped to online shops in uk and usa with pounds and dollars!
All I should do is to check the parity in order to see how much will it cost me in euros.

Am I wrong?

Re: Euro Credit Card

The thread is old but I am wondering the same... I have a EUR denominated account but my swiss back is unable (unwilling?) to link the account to my credit card. So it happens than whenever I pay something in EUR I got billed 1% additional commission + an ugly rate for the currency conversion (1% or more). I was wondering if there are banks or Postfinance offering a better service, i.e. credit card in euro + account in euro.

Re: Euro Credit Card

Another possibility would be to open an EUR account with a German bank, just across the border. Look for a Sparkasse or Deutsche Bank or Postbank...

The total costs of payments will be around 1%, but ask before opening the account. The yearly fee would quite low, too, if any.
Much less expensive compared to Switzerland where you pay at least 4-5% percent in tax.

In Switzerland, there is postfinance (0.9% processing cost plus around 3% exchange rate plus yearly fee of about 50-100CHF). There are another credit cards which are "free". It means there is no yearly tax, but usually it's a ripoff trying to pay in a non-CHF currency. That's why I highly recommend a German bank.

Re: Euro Credit Card

I highly recommend my German online bank Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB) that started to offer their services for Swiss custumers:
http://www.dkb.de/privatkunden/dkb_c..._ch/index.html
Their account plus credit card is free and the best thing is that it is free to take money out of cash machines worldwide with their credit card which has saved me hundreds of euros in fees while traveling quite a bit over the last 5 years that I had my account with them. The only fee is 1.75% if you pay in a non-Euro currency but their exchange rates are quite good. Never had any problems getting in touch with them or solving problems even though it's an online-only bank.
