Tax declaration

Hello,
I recently moved into switzerland, but I guess I didn't made the propper research before comming ...So this question may sound stupid but any answers will be greatly apreciated.
As non US/EU foreigner living here, do I have to make a tax declaration at the end of the year, as in other countries?? Or what my company deducts from my salary on the paycheck is enough???
I thought it was enough, but the other day, in a conversation with a colleague mentioned something about "not enough expenses to deduct" and made me thinkg a lot
Thanks!

Re: Tax declaration

If you earn under CHF 120'000 a year, your taxes will be collected via witholding tax. There is nothing more to pay.

If you earn over CHF 120'000, you are required to file a tax return. Depending on the canton you live in, your estimated taxes may be withheld and credited against your tax obligation, or you may collect your pay gross and pay your tax bill in its entirety at the end of the year.

Here is some more information:

Quote:
The employment income of Swiss nationals and foreigners with a permanent resicence permit (cat. C) is not taxed at source. These taxpayers have to file a tax return where all kind of income, including salaries and wages, must be declared. This assessed income tax is collected by the cantonal tax authorities from these taxpayers.

The employment income from other taxpayers is taxed at source (wage tax). Wage taxes are levied by the federation, the cantons and the municipalities. In general, these provisions are included in the income tax laws, e.g. Art. 83 et seq. of the Federal Direct Tax Act.

The rates of wage taxes are lower than the rates of the assessed income taxes, because they apply to gross income. All typical deductions and allowances are standardized and directly included in the tariff. At the end, both tax systems should end up in comparable tax bills, but the wage tax can be higher or lower than the assessed tax, depending on each individual case.

The employer is obliged to calculate and remit the wage tax. Employees with a gross salary exceeding CHF 120'000 per year are obliged to file a tax return and thus, have to pay the assessed tax at the end (wage taxes are credited, of course). Employees with lower salaries have the option to file a tax return and to pay the assessed tax (they get a refund if wage taxes where higher than the assessed taxes).

Before you submit a tax declaration, be sure that you are likely to get a refund. It can also be that the assessed taxes are higher than the wage taxes.

Re: Tax declaration

I sure will, but since I (as most people) gets two salaries in December bringing my taxes for this specific month to 4 x normal, I reckon a tax declaration will even that out. At least that is what the accountant at my company told me.

Re: Tax declaration

Hi guys, I am also in the above's shoes, so I will submit a tax return at the end of the year. My relocation bonus was taxed at twice the rate also.

My question is......how do I file a tax form? Where do I find it, who do I submit it to, I live in Aarburg, Aargau.

Cheers
