mileage calculation

greetings all

I'm being very good and trying to keep on top of all my accounting. Just got a quick question that I couldn't see covered in various threads I tried. I'm logging all the trips I make associated with work, and have the mileage recorded, but is there a flat rate I use to work out how much the journey has cost me? I didn't keep a record of how much petrol prices were at the time I made these journeys...or does that matter? I'm very new to all this so sorry if it's a dumb question.

Cheers

Cath

Re: mileage calculation

Petrol consumption depends on your car. On your CH tax assessment ("Steuererklärung") you can deduct up to CHF 0.70 per km for a passenger car.
That's about the rate employers pay the ones who use their own car for work.

Re: mileage calculation

If you didn't make a note of your mileage for a specific journey, Google Maps Directions provides an accurate calculation.

I like the fact that you can drag the route line in case you didn't take a direct route.

Re: mileage calculation

I've got all my mileages recorded accurately (and indeed I did use google for one of the calculations). some trips were made in my own car and others were made in rental cars of different types. I know that different cars have different fuel consumption etc, just wondered if there was a flat rate for tax purposes. I've just done them all now at the aforementioned 0.7 per km, so at least I now have a total in my little boxes !!

Ask your employer (HR?) the standard km rate in the company.

If it is a rental car, then you deduct the rental and estimated fuel consumption.
