What about the organisations like "Democrats Overseas" and the Republican version. They should be ontop of this problem. I hate to get involved with them but maybe it's the time to start and push their button.

I can't tell you how many peole gave me "that look" when I was preparing to move over. The "how dare you want to leave this perfect country! Traitor!" look.
I've always felt they (the government) wanted to punish us for leaving, hence the taxes and other assorted nonsense. Actually, so many people cannot fathom why you'd even want to leave... | | | | | There is definitely this undercurrent in certain parts of America..'our ancestors escaped that evil place Europe how could you want to go live there willfully'- ....and I am sure this is reflected in the legislative process. This is why US expats need a strong lobbying body, to make sure Congresspeople know the advantages of US expats overseas.

The same crowd that claims that "They hate us for our freedom" and other nonsense.
As a Swiss in the US, I also get a unique benefit. If at some point I am stuck and cannot get health insurance because of preexisting condition or who knows what, I always have the possibility to buy Swiss insurance (Thanks to Cannut for pointing that to me).
It is a huge relief to know that I won't go bankrupt like so many American families with no health coverage.

Blackduff | | | | | I don't think they really do much, except organize absentee voting and advertise political ideology.

I wonder if there are any other organizations out there.

I took a look at the sites for the Dem & Rep Aboad. You could send money through them but they're not going to help us, from what I can determine.
I'll keep trying to find an organisation with some traction. Being just one individual has to find a group.

Blackduff | | | | | One of my neighbors is a lobbyist for a bank and also very involved in local politics. I will ask him and let you know what he recommends.

Convictions, indeed. |

Convictions, indeed. | | | | | I didn't forget, I wasn't fully aware that if I didn't owe anything that I still had to file. I didn't owe a thing, thank you. So no double taxation for me.
My convictions are quite strong on this matter. I have no plans to ever reside in that country again. When I state that it is because of my convictions, I mean it. Them asking for all this data on me when I don't live there and a possible tax for healthcare is simply salt in the wound.

I've lived in France for a decade, and the only comments I ever heard from folks in the US were "may I come and visit?".
Evilshell lives in her own world filled with self-pity for the "burden" of US citizenship, but empty of the courage to renounce that citizenship.
There is a decades-old libertarian motto that seems applicable: "freedom exists for those who choose it."
