I am looking for someone to shed some light on my situation:
I and my wife are U.S. citizens; she works for a Swiss company, I work as independent contractor (1099) for a U.S. company (i.e. she gets paid in Swiss francs here and I get paid in US$ in the U.S.). We both live in Basel.

On Swiss side:
1) Should we file taxes jointly in Switzerland?
2) Should we report my U.S. income in Switzerland?
3) Will I be eligible to pay AHV/IV and claim benefits eventually?

On the U.S. side:
1) Can I also claim ~$90K AGI reduction?
2) Can we deduct rent etc.?

Also, if someone can recommend an accountant who can have expertize in both tax systems, I would appreciate it.

(1) Yes, if your income is considered professional fees (no, or "in part," if business capital or the contribution of others in a company contribute to that income); (2) "rent," yes, if your income exceeds the exclusion amount; "etc" is not in the Internal Revenue Code.
