I should add something about Coop Credit cards.
If you use a post account you can not pay the bill directly from the account.
While I don't want to contradict you, this surprises me.

If you can pay at the post office then you should be able to pay via Postfinance's online system. Use the "Document Reader" (or "Scanner" I don't remember the exact term on the site) and enter the numbers at the bottom of the payment slip. (In fact I have the numbers for my cards saved in a text file for ease of use each month)

What do the Coop slips look like that you can't do something similar?

Re: Credit Cards

Maybe you are right,
what i mean is that you can not set the automatic direct payment from the postfinance account. I tried and they told me (with a letter from the credit card company, this was few months ago) that they can not do that if you have a bank account at the post. It looked like it was a problem only with the post account i didn't investigated further because at that point i had already decided to cancel the card. For a one or two months i stopped by the post office to pay.
And i realized of the "hidden fee".
But yes you are right, i actually never tried to pay 'manually' from the account.

Re: Credit Cards

Just a word of advice - avoid Swisscard (Credit Suisse, Coop card provider) by all means. They are so rude. I called them regularly and repeatedly to change my address where the bills should be sent (they got it only 4th or 5th time), but in the meantime I received the bills with delays. And after that every time I have a problem with the cards, they give me a lecture first on how I should pay my bills on time. Feels like secondary school again. Horrible customer service. Try Jelmoli cards, not without problems, but the tone is more client-oriented.

Maybe I'm lucky, but the times I've called them they have been helpful and polite.

The only thing I miss from them is an online option to check my transactions.

Can not agree with you more - i have found that they have been increadibly helpful on the phone while dealing with certain issues - however, not being able to check my balance online is terribly archaic and a real PITA!!

Re: Credit Cards

Does anybody know if there are any credit cards to be had in CH that allow statements to be checked online?

just coincidence, was it James Bond who coined the phrase happenstance - but that was after 1 times - after 3 times is enemy action?

Re: Credit Cards

Just curious if anyone has experience with application times - I dropped an application for a Coop credit card in the mail on November 1ish and haven't heard anything yet. Wondering if this is normal turnaround time, or what. Thanks!

Re: Credit Cards

Some kantonal banks have pretty good setups with online access.

Ours is such that your points can be used to half or eliminate the annual card fee. Spending about 800CHF a month halfs the fee

There is also some good insurance an the cards we have access to (i) travel insurance (ii) travel interupption insurance (iii) car rental excess insurance (iv) best price guarantee - yes they pay the difference if you find the product cheaper within 14days in another shop and (v) insurance on purchases if damaged or lost travelling home

Card is a Visa or Mastercard

They are alright. The only thing that sucks, is that currently there isn't an online banking option for them. I.e, if you want to check your balance, you need to call em up everytime. I use the card quite frequently whenever I travel and I never had any problems.

I also forgot to mention, they don't have a toll free number...just a regular number to call, but operators are available 24/7 in case you need assistance.
Agreed with all that, and I have both Coop Visa and M/Card. Highly recommended by me.

Hi Sbrinz - do you recall about how long it took to receive a response about your credit card application? Thanks!
