Credit Cards

Does anyone have one of the Coop supercards with Mastercard or Visa? If so would you recommend them. I'm in the market for a new card and they seem pretty good - no annual fee and 9.9% APR - are these details correct? Am finding it hard to interpret the website for the card. If anyone has any details please post em up

They are alright. The only thing that sucks, is that currently there isn't an online banking option for them. I.e, if you want to check your balance, you need to call em up everytime. I use the card quite frequently whenever I travel and I never had any problems.

I also forgot to mention, they don't have a toll free number...just a regular number to call, but operators are available 24/7 in case you need assistance.

Ah, the lack of internet banking and having a toll number - maybe not so good after all. Would you (or anyone else) make any recommendations then? I could probably get a gold card from Postfinance (where my account is) but I'd rather not have to pay the annual fee - is a bit extortionate I think...

..definitely a good point. Well, there is also another advantage for having a Coop Supercard Plus....you can collect Coop superpoints with it. I'm waiting until I have enough superpoints to get a helicopter ride over the alps...and then I'll probably switch to a credit card from a bank.

Never thought about the points I guess - and given there's one right outside my front door its prob a good bet I'll rack up a few points myself. Helicopter flight sounds ace! How long you think before you get that?

On a similar note - what about air miles on ccs? Do they have to be used for a specific airline, a group of airlines or what? I'll be doing a lot of flying as well as grocery shopping....

...not sure about the airmiles. I need aproximately another month or so to get my helicopter ride.
You can also sell your coop superpoints...for every 100 points you'll roughly get 1 Franc I believe. The helicopter ride costs 15000 Coop superpoints.

That sounds great! Might steer me towards their card. The internet banking is a problem though - that's how I've always worked so is a bit of a turn off. Will require a bit more research on my end I think. If there's any other recommendations (either good or bad) please let me know

..the internet thingy is indeed a problem. They however stated that they plan to implement some e-banking thingy...but god knows when that is going to take place. Maybe you can directly compare it with the Migros credit card. That comparis site mentioned peviously is a very good source.

Re: Credit Cards

What about prepaid cards? I know there is one available with the Halbtax travel card but what about other card providers?

Also, on the Migros card - does it have internet banking? Or is this only possible with cards attached to a bank?

Re: Credit Cards

We have just cancelled our coop mastercard after 6months of using it.
They always sent the bill about the 19th of the month after repeated phone calls found out its impossible to have the bill at the end of the month so if you pay at the end of the month they were charging us nearly every month 25fr for not paying on time so deceided would rather pay the bank once a year at least I can pay over the internet.

Wouldn't paying by LSV/debit direct make sense?

Huh? Why would it be impossible to have the bill at the end of the month? Just ask them to change your cycle date, any card provider can do this.

Re: Credit Cards

We asked about 10 times to have it changed to the end of the month, but according to the people on the telephone more than impossible, massive shock at this idea.
At the start we did pay direkt but the first 2 months had 2 mistakes on the bill so we wanted to control it before paying, as afterwards its a hassle to get money back.
Maybe we were just unlucky but never had these sort of problems with the normal card from CS

Sounds odd - as far as I know the people handling the Coop cards (Swisscard) are the same company as the one who handles all the CS cards.

Re: Credit Cards

I should add something about Coop Credit cards.
If you use a post account you can not pay the bill directly from the account.
Thus you have to go to the post office every time, and the credit card company charges you 1.75CHF each time. Which would be 21CHF/year.
Last month i canceled the card and paid the final bill but yesterday i received a new 1.75CHF bill (?!?!?!).
That was quite annoying
