Re: Tax At Source 18.09%

As previously mentioned there is an online tax calculator,

https://calculators.credit-suisse.co...tax.do?lang=en

Important to know in Switzerland, is that every small town (Gemeinde / Commune has a different final tax rate,
someone else posted this link, which I found very useful,

Hi, just to add, I would thoroughly recommend an English speaking accountant to do your tax return when you are taxed at source - they know stuff we dont like making deductions for house insurance premiums, house maintenance, work clothing, travel, lunches etc etc and it all adds up - also explaining how you can "invest" in a 3rd Pillar account and get a good percentage of the premiums back via your return. I have been here 5 years now and each year have received a sizeable rebate which makes what I pay the accountant very worthwhile indeed. Will gladly pass on his details if you'd like and he is convenient to you - in Nyon VD. Rebates though, can take a whiler - I just last week got mine from the 2008 return, but normally it seems to coincide with the issuing of the return, so when you receive your 2010 return roughly around the same time you should get your 2009 rebate - or at least thats how it has worked for me so far - but I am sure it differs town to town, canton to canton...
Any suggestion about one in Geneva?, need help filling tax forms

OP, did your first month's wages include a relocation allowance in addition to your pay? This can throw out the tax for a month, but it will all come out in the wash at the end of the year.

Re: Tax At Source 18.09%

Amount of tax deducted from salary depends on:

-the amount of salary
-a tax category - it is different if you there is a single income, dual income, if there are kids at house, ...
-additionally, church tax can be deducted as well.

Tax category is assigned by a tax office were a tax payer lives. I assume, that since you've just arrived, it is possible, it was not assign to you so far and you paid the largest possible amaunt. Anyway, you can get it back if you overpaid, it is just a matter of time.
