Is there any other family allowances provided, except child allowance?

One of my friend told me that a non-EU lady whom she used to meet in her daughter's school recieves an unemployment allowance. But that lady had never worked in Switzerland or any other EU countries so far. My friend didn't show much interest to learn more informations about that, as that lady told that this allowance is possible only for the partners of whose husbands / wives are working for direct Swiss companies. My friend's husband is working for an Indian company and being here in client's location.

Since my husband is working for a Swiss company, I thought of getting more information from her, but since it is vacation time, couldn't meet her. So, let me put my questions here in our forum.

I am full time home maker for the past 3 years and worked as a s/w engg in India before that. My husband works for a Swiss company in Zurich. Am I entitled to get any allowance as I am unemployed? If yes, how to proceed?

Thanks for all your inputs.

The eligibility rule for unemployment benefits is 12 months employment during the preceding 24 months. The claimant must qualify. Spouse's status is irrelevant.

Thanks Goldtop. So, I guess I don't have to search for that lady for more information

Does the 12 out of 24 still count if the person was paying the equivalent contribution in the UK?

Prior employment in a EU country does count. Unsure whether fully or partially.

Others have discussed the CH/UK situation in other threads, including precise advice on procedures.
