If it was in writing, email, I think the new employee has a case.

Are you suggesting "asking faceless people on internet" is better than asking your employer?

When I made the same query I was given a "specimen" payslip for someone on my salary level, the variables being my status, canton of residence etc.

good luck with that one. all such things normally would say 'illustrative' and even if they said, this is exactly the tax you will pay - you have no 'loss' and so no damages to sue for.

Sorry, I did not mean as a full on legal case but just that it would be wrong on the employers part. If they are being dishonest on purpose, then its not just tax matters they would stop at.

The person who does the Payroll would (should) know exactly how much will be your deductions.
