I have one question regading account for famillies in UBS. If we do not want joint account and open two separate accounts with maestro cards can we have add-on cards to one another? Anyone has experinece with this?

So basicly one person will have two cards on its name but one will be main card and another will be suplementary card and vice versa. I had that option im my bank and home.
Sure you can, but you pay for extra cards, i think it's Sfr 40 per card

But in family package it says cards as many you like for the price of package.

Or did I get it wrong?

"The annual fee for the UBS Maestro Card and free cash withdrawals in CHF within Switzerland at all UBS Bancomats and ATMs of other banks are included in the attractive price for the “Pay and Save Basic Offering”."

Well, believe it or not I will. But we are all here to exchange experiences and give some advice also.

I gave myself many too, for many things that person maybe can call somebody and ask.

It is really anoying how many pople here have time to patronize and give you lessons what you should do or should have done.

It wasn't really meant to be patronising but i could see how it could be possibly taken as such.

You ask these sorts of questions, you get a variety of answers, why not just phone up your bank and ask them, you get the right answer immediately. You'll have to speak to them anyway if you want to do it !

The banks are quite happy to give advice, they're a business, just like a supermarket, the big difference is they sell money not meat !

I think that the point is that you are now at the point where any information you get here is hearsay and therefor as likely to be incorrect as not. At this point it is now time to actually talk to the people from whom you will be purchasing services.

Good Luck.

Everyone wants to get the best deal. Or at least not feel they got the shaft.

Bank Accounts

Would steer clear of postfinance. You get charged a whopping 3 franks everytime you use an ATM which is not by postfinance

Re: Bank Accounts

As far as I know BPS is one of the cheapests Banks. I compared it with credit suisse and UBS and these are quite more expensive. BPS salary accounts cost 3 CHF/month if you have less than 7,500 CHF, free otherwise. And you can open depot accounts in CHF and EUR for free, with a 0.75% of interest, which compared with the 0.2% of the standard account it's quite better.
Just to compare, Credit suisse accounts cost 6 CHF/month and you need more than 15,000 CHF in your accounts to get them for free.

Re: Bank Accounts

Personally I think you should look more at what extras each bank offers than at 6chf a month. Cause that 6 CHF does not make the difference.

Re: Bank Accounts

I do not agree. It makes the difference in the sense that paying a bank for holding your money and playing with it it's near obscenity... I'm more confortable when my bank asks me less money. Of course it is true that you should check everything, but I have seen that, for a standard level, the differences between banks are not big. They almost offer the same for "easy" costumers that only ask for a bank that works and do not bother them too much. Hence, why pay the double for the same?

Re: Bank Accounts

Get real, unless you have a LOT of money to invest/stick in a bank account, they are all swings and round abouts, meaning the same thing.

By a lot, think at least one 5 and 5 zeros in liquid assets...

You need to be from the right country.
I am from the US and couldn't set up an account whereas my wife who is from the UK walked in and had one for the asking. Nice.

Also, I can tell you that Credit Suisse charges 40chf per card for the Maestro chip and pin debit cards and I think that there is an annual charge or 40chf as well for the privilege of having the account. Having said that, they do offer unlimited online banking and you can do IBAN transactions for no fees as well.

So as long as you know what you are getting and understand what you are paying for it, it doesn't come out that bad at all.

Good Luck.
Annual charge is 72CHF unless you have 15k in assets with them.

It's 2 Fr per withdrawal unless abroad or not withdrawing EUR from a EUR postfinance card, or CHF from a CHF postfinance card.

This is if you don't have 7500 in assets from them or work for an employer where they have a special deal due to internal mail outsourcing etc.

For free worldwide cash withdrawals their Plus set costs 12 CHF a month, then you don't pay for withdrawals at all. Might work out cheaper see: https://www.postfinance.ch/pf/conten...oductSubmit.do

Finally Migrosbank let you use Migros ATMs, Migros branches, and Postfinance ATMs for free withdrawals but charge 20 CHF for a Maestro card. Postfinance monthly charge of 3/12 CHF a month includes the card which is also a payment debit card in CH.

Re: Bank Accounts

Has anyone seen both the UBS and CS online banking? Which would you say is the simpler / more intuitive to use?

Having had accounts with many different banks (personal and business) I have come across some excellent but also some aweful internet banking interfaces... I wonder if UBS and CS are different in this?

BTW if anyone thinks that another bank has a much better system, please do post this also - its just that for international banking purposes I find that the 'smaller' banks usually sting you with high exchange rate charges (i.e. bad rates) which far outweigh the benefits of low monthly charges for me.

Re: Bank Accounts

Hi, I'm about to land in Zurich next week.

I'd not even considered taking out a credit card locally, all this mention of them has got me thinking how good it would be to ease the first months expenses.

How easy is the application process? Are there any pitfalls to watch out for? Finally, what do they base your credit limit on?
