Shipping gold to Switzerland

Will the Swiss Govt tax me if I buy some gold jewelry online (from US) and get it shipped to Switzerland (Basel) ?

Does anyone have some info regarding this ?

Thanks a lot for your time,
Cheers,
Sampath

Re: Shipping gold to Switzerland

shouldn't this come under regular import rules?

isn't the purchase limit 70 francs or something (I'm drawing a blank) before one pays VAT and also adminstrative fees

there may be a specific regulation for jewellery but otherwise it'll fall under the regular rules

Re: Shipping gold to Switzerland

The purchase is more than 70 CHF. Do you know how much one needs to pay as VAT and Admin fees (approximately !) if purchased for ≈250 CHF and shipped to Basel

What if I request a friend of mine to ship it as a GIFT ? Is there a gift tax or something ?

Re: Shipping gold to Switzerland

Now how on earth does our dog expert know where to find info about importing jewellery from USA?

Added after thinking hard - Of course, all her pooches have diamond studded collars...

I allowed myself the off-topic comment as this was my 3000th post.

You can see the same page in English if you click on English in the upper right corner.

I've purchased gold beads and fittings to make jewelery and it's all taxable. You're taxed on both the value of the jewelery as well as the shipping cost. If the items are sent to you via express mail, be prepared to pay a higher service charge.

If you enter Switzerland, you can bring in CHF 300 worth with you in a single day.
