The Swiss Tax Year

Hi,

I am looking to become resident in September 2011, and was wondering what the tax position is for that year.

If I am resident for only the last 4 months of the year, I would assume that I would be eligible for tax from the day I start my residency.

Thanks all....

Re: The Swiss Tax Year

As a foreigner working in Switzerland you are 99% likely to have Swiss taxes deducted by your employer from day 1 (source tax/quellensteuer). However, you may also be liable for taxes in the country you are moving from, depending on their tax year, your previous earnings there and their own tax rules. If moving from China to Switzerland, you will need to find out specifically what agreements if any exist between the two states regarding offsetting of double taxation.

I will be coming in as a self-employed person... therefore, responsible for my own taxes..
