My salary slip really confuses me -

Ok so I'm from UK, been here 1 year and I really can't get my head around it. I've asked my HR person ans says it's normal but I just want to confirm to see if there is anyone in my boat.

I'm not afraid to say what I earn on a forum, doesn't make a different to me so basically on a yearly basis I'm on - I actually can't remember what I am on exactly, left pay slip at home but on a yearly basis it is around -

80k CHF

-

Now on a monthly basis BEFORE all deductions I get something like 6.5k

then I get deducted a few deductions and I get around 900 CHF taken away from me

and then on my slip, I get another chunk taken away (Import a la source) from me which is also around 900 CHF and then at the end of the month I am left with around - 4800 CHF

-

does this look normal to anyone on my type of salary here?

I don't know if this helps but I'm single, 26...

any thoughts on this? Can I challenge some of these deductions?

Thank you!

Re: My salary slip really confuses me -

Probably.

There are several threads here already with more information on them than you have supplied - these have the exact terms on them from payslips.

Try to get a copy of your pay slip and compare it to these threads. Here's one I found by seaching: "payslip, pay, slip" and clicking on the "posts" option. Here's another.

I've written it before, and I'll do so again, but even if you pay tax at source, you should consider getting a tax return done to see if you get some money back. Whether you choose to submit the tax assessment form to the authorities is your call...

Hmm, last time I got a paycheck was a few years ago and I was at 5K/month. The actual amount I saw was ~3700. So 1300 lopped off. They're taking 1700 out of 6.5K for you, without looking at all the details I'd say it's pretty much on par.

Re: My salary slip really confuses me -

just fyi, they apparently changed the regulation. I was called up by a lady from a company or the state and have an appointment tomorrow morning in regards to taxes and other things taken out. App I am possibly paying to much. The cosultation is for free (hence why I agreed to it. If you want I can leave you the phone number from the lady that called me. they do canton per canton to do home visits.....

Please tell me you really don't honestly believe that the state will ever proactively call you and set up a "free" appointment because you pay too much tax.

(*snip*)
This is spot on.

The only deduction that cannot really be calculated is the BVG. It depends on your age and the coverage your employer has with the insurance. In the last 10 years my BVG deductions varied between 250 and 500 francs.
