How much is chomage in GVA?

Hi there,

I will be shortly be eligible for chomage, I have been in Geneva and paid my AVS for the past 5.5 years so I think this is OK....

My question is, does anyone know how much you actually get on Chomage?

I understand that it's 70% of your previous salary ( I don't have dependents ...) but I heard there is less AVS to pay and less federal tax as well - does anyone know about those? Does it depend on salary how much the tax reduction would be? Any ideas for a salary around 112k?

Would be a great help if someone could give some guidance, I did go to chomage office today and speak to the woman but she was unintelligible and - even when I asked her to speak slower - she laughed and carried on at the same breakneck pace... Hmmm. I'm getting my information in bits and pieces, EF included as a good source of info !

Thanks everyone -
M

You've been here 5.5 years and can't understand French sufficiently well yet ?

Maybe you spent your time learning how to use search engines.....

It's maximum 80% of your last salary capped at 126'000 CHF:

1) if salary higher than 126'000 CHF. you'll get around 8400chf
2) if salary lower than 126'000 CHF, you'll get 80% of it.
70% if single.

Nope it's pretty much just Charlie doing a copy-paste job in every thread. What better way to attract members and to encourage a community spirit...

Read the post - that wasn't the question. He knows about the limits, but is perfectly correct in stating that you DON't get 80% or 70%. That is the gross calculation, but it is reduced by all the usual insurances and taxes.

I have to admit I don't know if the tax rate is different when you are on chomage vs a normal salary - my guess would be it wasn't - but hopefully someone who knows can answer his question.

The same tax schedule is used; a lower salary (i.e. unemployment contrubutions) results in a lower tax rate. AVS / AI percentage remains unchanged.
