We are a gay couple from EU elocating to Switzerland next year. One of us will be working in IT for a international company located in Vaud. The another one wont be working for a while. We will be residing in Vaud as well.

Do you know whether gay marrige/partnership may effect your taxation the same way as it does for straight couples?

All answers & suggestions are very welcome (even the following ones : f...ing gays , go home).

As far as I know, you'll be considered a married couple. A friend of mine married his partner in Zurich a few years ago, and they were taxed as married.

You declare in form that you are married and that one of the spouses is unemployed. Then the tax should be less. As soon as the other spouse starts earning above the taxable threshold then you declare it accordingly and then the tax will be more.

Shall I present marrige cerificate to tax authorities?

I was told that only civil partnership carried out in Switzerland will be recognised for tax purposes. Other country civil partnerships help get the non working partner a full (identical) permit to the working partner, but dont confer any tax status. Maybe I've been advised wrongly. Any advice appreciated as I'm arriving from the UK at the end of October with my civil partner (ceremony carried out in England). One of us is British, the other Dutch.
