Re: IT contract rates

Thanks Guys ..

I think I better take some tax advice ( anybody know a good firm in Zurich ?) ..
Company is a route but expensing everthing to save tax does not leave much for savings ( the bottom line )..

I looked at
http://www.estv.admin.ch/e/dienstlei...uerrechner.htm

but not sure if I can expense mortgage interest payments in UK and associated expenses .. if so then I should keep it personal and not go down the company route?

Why not ask your questions here. I am pretty sure I can answer them. A Tax advisor has a table they use to look up their fees. An advisor will cost you upwards of SFr. 150 per hour. Now what were you saying about the good old days?!

Have you got a contract? Or in discussions about one? Or is this simply testing the water?

Re: IT contract rates

Hi,
In negotiation at present ..
So
Q1: If I am Swiss resident I can declare my UK rental property and associated costs to lower the tax burden?
Q2: What denotes the border between Zurich city and outside of Zurich?.. outside of the 8 kreises?

Yes I agree that you see where the $$ go in tax in Switzerland rather than UK where it is wasted on inefficiencies..

Okay lets do something naughty and also ask a question:

Q1 direct negotiation or through an agency?

Why. Your questions are personal tax relevant but that might not be the way to go.

Answers to your questions:
A1. You indeed can but you might find you raise your tax.
A2. The Swiss map is split into Cantons and Gemeindes (Communes).
The borders for Zürich city are then where the Zürich Gemeindes are no longer the responsible local authority ie outside of the Zürich "Kreises" There are actually 12 Kreises...

Strictly speaking yes but really no. Glattpark is in gemeinde Opfikon I think and that is on the 11 but that is the only one.
How am I supposed to answer your second question? I need a starting point... Main station to Kappeli (end of Flurstr.) is 16 minutes

You seem to be really keen on saving tax so if the agency says they will employ you ie UBS will have you and this will be contracting then before you sign anything drop me a line and I will explain a thing of two about reducing taxes

Re: IT contract rates

it's worth noting that all the hoops to avoid tax in the UK that a contractor might have to go through are greatly and easily reduced when moving to Switzerland.

After all, income tax in the UK makes you want to avoid it and take great steps to do so; income tax here is remarkably fair and, as a scumbag contractor when I arrived, I went from keeping every receipt for "expenses" to not caring. It's that much better.

IB is in Opfikon. Is it true IB? Have you had an interview?

There is (in theory global) development work being done in Altstetten (both areas).
