Hi All!

I've been searching through existing posts to find some answers/clarification to my questions however I'm still a little confused as to where I stand. Apologies in advance for questions already covered in other posts.

I will be moving to Basel in a few weeks as I will start an IT contract for Six months.
I believe i do have three different options:
1) Use an umbrella company and pay 30 + % on taxes
2)Sole trader
3)Limited Company

The income per month is aprox 15k Euros per month

So what to do?? what is the best solution for such a short contract??
Is there anyone out there that could give some advise??? I would really appreciate it.

The different entities are covered at leangth in the forums - do a bit more searching .

The big question for you is will the contract get extended? For a 6 months fixed tewrm contract you should be able to remain registered for tax and social security in your home country and keep the lot. If the authorities bother you just keep writing to them explaining your situation until you leave.

I agree however, I havent been able to see the same scenario as mine....
I do have a more information for one that I have quotation from:

Umbrella Company>>37% taxes for being registered in Basel

Is that acceptable??

The company that I got my job through does a payroll service for ex-pat contractors. I've worked in the past with both the people who run the company & they are very professional. I don't know what they charge but if you like I can send you their details.

Thanks for your reply Swissbob,the contract is very unlikely that would get renewed, what you mention about remain register for tax and social security would be the ideal situation however... I dont it will be feasible as the job agent in London seems quite determine to make me sign up with one of this swiss umbrella companies...
Would you have any other ideas?

Hi, Yes it is quite understandable that they want you to get a company in Switzerland. Ultimately if this goes belly up then they will be liable for the social security contributions in Switzerland and potentially the UK!

You need to understand a bit about the Swiss Tax system though to answer if Basel is okay at 37%(I would say no). And you need to state what your objectives are. Is it to flit over to Switzerland do the contract and return to base?

You do have several options and you do need a bit of advice to get the best deal. Things that are additionally relevant are age, and family situation, where the place of work will be and what kind of accomodation you will be seeking and where.
