Just wondering if Zurich had any good Jewish delis like those in Montreal and New York? Everyone loves a smoked meat or corn beef sandwichs like those found at Katz's and Schwartz's. If you have no idea what I'm talking about take a look - http://www.schwartzsdeli.com & http://www.katzdeli.com/. You're life won't be the same after you sampled their wares. Anyhow, just wondering if anything like this exists in Zurich.

dunno if they have your wanted sandwiches, but an jewish/kosher store is located at waffenbachplatz/waffenbachstrasse, behind s-train stop Enge.

a very good area would be near Goldbrunnenplatz and Schmiede Wiedikon - this is the area where many Jews live and thus must cater for their requirements.

A new kosher supermarket has opened on the corner of Weststrasse and Bremgartnerstrasse, over the road from the Synagogue.

Schwartzs in Montreal ... you got me drooling. Went there 2 years ago with my wife during a short trip, the food was great. Thanks for bringing back a wonderful memory.

It´s actually Waffenplatzstr..... no bach in there.
sorry I was talking about a place further up than that... No. 13tram to Waffenplatzstr, totally kosher area

Or take Bus No. 33 from Wollishofen, get down at Waffenplatz-Bederstrasse. The bus stops right at the doorstep of a Kosher Backerie. Walk a few steps and you will see Books and Bagels.

What's even more painful is that a Jewish friend from NY was stuck on the tarmac for 5 hours because of a drunken female passenger and then later a weather delay - he eventually called off his visit as a result. He was carrying smoked meat and corned beef from Katz's and NY bagels for me. He called and told me about the great sandwich he had the next day.

So did anyone ever end up finding a Jewish deli in Zürich?

A Jewish deli like Katz's is definitely not the same as a Kosher deli (a Reuben is definitely not kosher!)

Nothing's changed since the previous posts.

There are very few young Jewish people in Zurich now. The wider community is still going strong, but young Orthodox Jews are few and far between, so the demands for a wide variety of Kosher stores is exponentially reducing.

There's a great business catering for Kosher consumers / visitors to the city just waiting to be hatched... but in the meantime, it's just bagels and Bamba

First thing I eat when in Montreal. Smoked meat poutine. Mmmmmmm... Tres, tres bon.
