Korean & Japanese groceries in Basel???

Hello,

I just moved to Basel and was wondering if there are any shops specializing in Korean or Japanese ingredients. I'm looking for the basics: Korean/Japanese soy sauce, sesame oil, miso, and shiso leaves, and Korean kimchee (pref. not canned). I've found 1 or 2 products at various Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese shops so far but need more . I know of a place in Zurich but was hoping I wouldn't have to go all the way there. I also found a tiny "shop" here called Mikado but am hoping there is something bigger in Basel.

Thank you!

Thank you, I tried that shop in SBB complex but it only had a couple things. I would really like to find a place that specializes in Korean or Japanese stuff. Any other ideas??

Depending on whether you have a car and how far you want to travel. There's a decent Asian section to Marktkauf over in Weil-am-Rhein http://www.marktkauf.de/index.php?t_...s&left_navi=49

There's also an Asian shop in the same shopping compled selling Thai ingredients etc. that will likely have better prices than shops in Switzerland.

Hi!

I sat on the no 3 tram to Birsfelden one morning this week and saw a big sign of a Swiss Asian Lebensmittel market, and got to think about this thread, don't know if they have any japanese stuff but anyway... could be worth checking out. They seem not to have a website, but an e-mailadress. Its just a tram ride for 10 min from Aeschenplatz...

Re: Korean & Japanese groceries in Basel???

if i remember correctly, there is a quite large chinese/thai shop near basel station which is also open on sundays (i don't know if it is accurate) and they also have korean & japanese groceries, too.

if you have a chance to come to zurich

YumiHana
Schützengasse 7, 8001 Zurich (near main station)
and

Nishi's Japan Shop
Schaffhauserstrasse 120, 8057 Zurich

both have large selection of korean/japanese food.

here, you can order japanese groceries online:
