Re: strawberry picking zurich

Wild strawberries were just coming ripe last Thursday on the south-facing slopes of canton Glarus. The south-facing slopes of Zurich can't be far behind.

Tedious work getting enough for a meal but cultivated berries can't touch them for flavor.

Not in Zurich, but the most amazing berries can currently be picked in Tegerfelden, Kt. Aargau.

We've been strawberry picking here http://www.erdbeerfeld.ch/ and enjoyed it very much.
It's in Bonstetten, ZH. The website says their season this year begins at the end of May and goes on for around 4 weeks.

Re: strawberry picking zurich

Last year I went to this place, (I think, I doubt they have 2 places in Wangen):
http://www.erdbeer-feld.ch/
They told me I could eat as much as I want and at the end I just pay for what I take with me. Have to repeat it this year, possibly tomorrow.
It is close enough to Zürich (depends on where you live) and according to my memory you will be guided to the fields by signs almost from the high-way on.

we were there today. It was fantastic. We were 3 mums with 5 kids all aged between 3 and 5. Can't recommend it highly enough.

We picked loads of strawberries (they are delicious), kids played, all had lunch - and it is good food too - not usual sausage and chips rubbish. But really tasty and not over priced.

As a bonus there is also a geo-cach on site!

Enjoy!

In Vaud - between Gollion and La Vorsée/Aclens, adjacent to the road, easy to find.
However, the season is almost over - so hurry up.
CHF 5 per kg.

Mmmmmmm ... fresh, hand-picked berries ... thanks for resurrecting this thread!

It is a little too early still -- even the Spanish strawberries aren't at ther best.

Usually, strawberries are available in northern Switzerland from early June; raspberries and blackberries from early-to-mid-July. The best indication that they're in season is when Co-op and Migros start stockng Swiss berries, as there are no large-scale greenhouse operations here.

Local strawberries were available on the market here on Thursday and the local grower has his giant strawberry outside so I guess strawberry picking time is here. yum yum

I guess things are different way down there in the south!

Up this way, the last week of May is usually the earliest starting time for strawberries.
