Awesome dessert...

Didn't know where to post this, so..
Anyway, I live and work in Prague, so I'm not really a Swiss expat, but I need your help. I visited Zurich for that massive party they had in July, and my friends and I met a bartender who made us try this (seemingly) popular Swiss dessert. It was shaped like an egg, wrapped in foil. It had a chocolate shell, and inside was sweetened, whipped egg whites. It was ridiculously good, and I'd like to know if anyone has a name for it (I'd like to try and find it here).

Thanks for the help!
Rob

That sounds a lot like the Cadbury Creme Egg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadbury_Creme_Egg) but because you said it was ridiculously good, I think we can rule that one out.

It's definitely not that; I've had that many times back in the US and the filling is not based on egg-whites.. I don't really want to know what the filling is actually. Yeah this thing was much better.

What I believe you are referring to is this:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schokokuss

I think it is called Mohrenkopf by Swiss German speakers

you have to love the English wikipedia equivalent article title "chocolate-covered marshmallow wafer"

Fun practical joke: get someone to eat one along with some nice fresh and fizzy coke. An explosion may ensue.

Re: Please ID this awesome dessert...

Could it be this one:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwedenbombe

It is not egg shaped and wrapped in foil, but it is thin chocolate covering wipped egg white on the inside.

Fresh ones - they are good!

In Sweden we have several different variations/shapes it.
To make your own - http://www.recipezaar.com/88391
With reservation, I have not tried the recipe myself.

Re: Please ID this awesome dessert...

Sounds rather like 'mohrenkoepfe' (singl. mohrenkopf ) - a light marshmallow cased in a chocolate skin. Take a look here http://www.mohrenkopfdubler.ch/produkte.htm

They seem to be hugely popular here in Switzerland and are available in all supermarkets.

Since you said you are in Prague and if you can't find anything like it in your supermarkets there - you could check out an Ikea - in their Scandinavian/Swedish food store they could have a variant.

Great! This sounds right.. now the tricky part is to take one of these German/Swiss German names and translate it into Czech ;-)

Good call on scoping out the Ikea for them! If not, I have the recipe too from Piafia, and I'll let you know how it turns out..

Thanks everyone!

I think I'll have to have a stab at the home-made variety also.

Another alternative source is Lidl. They sell (or at least sold, in Ireland) their own brand by the name "Choco Softies" - box of 12 for about 3 euro. Worth checking that out too, if there's a Lidl nearby.
