All kidding aside, I think your best bet is trying at Asian supermarkets.
You might want to take a look at New Asia Market, or the Turkish supermarket on Joseftrasse (Kreis 5), or Chiang Mai in Zurich? Good luck with your search!

Probably not that relevant if people are looking for a specific type of raw rice but apparently parboiled rice is better for you... | Quote: | | | | | Parboiled rice is rice that has been boiled in the husk. There are three basic steps involved in the parboiling process, which are soaking, steaming and drying[2]. These steps also make rice easier to process by hand, improves its nutritional profile (excepting its vitamin-B content, which is denatured in the process), and changes its texture. | | | | | |

It has been 3 years since I lived in Switzerland, BUT i find it really strange that people are having trouble finding non-parboiled rice in the supermarket. Is this something new?
ETA: Isn't this regular rice? http://www.coopathome.ch/b2c_coop/ca...0000000A0301CE |

Oerlikon! you should find the Asian market. It's amazing, you find all the rice you need (black, red, integral, etc) and prices are so cheaper compared to normal grocery stores!

No long-grain non-Basmati non-parboiled rice to be found at the Coop Sihlcity.

ETA: I was Uncle Ben's Long grain rice & said 20mins on the package. Doesn't regular rice take about 20 mins? |

However, I'm about 85% sure that Uncle Ben's rice products are all parboiled. http://www.unclebens.com/ |

Having previously washed and drained it, soaked for a couple of minutes, and then after cooking rinsed with fresh boiling water.
Same as Basmati or Thai Jasmine rice, give or take.

My point was more that I think that the rice above, is regular long grain rice. No? | Quote: | | | | | Yes, that's about how long other long-grained rice takes to cook (e.g., Carolina long-grain). Isn't that sort of "precooked" or semi-precooked? The kind above, does not come in water like the OP describes.

He could have also seen one of the sachets of rice, which do look weird if you're looking for some rice to measure out and cook.
Uncle Ben's rice is all parboiled - that's their thing, apparently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Ben%27s
In my experience, parboiled rice is firmer and less sticky, which is sometimes NOT what I'm looking for in my rice dish. However, in those cases, Basmati rice has served me fine in der Schweiz.

OK. I can now confirm there is regular non-parboiled Carolina rice in the Migros. I've actually seen them with my own eyes.
In the Migros the come in bags the parboiled Carolina rice has a yellow label where as the regular Carolina rice has an aqua blue label.
Phew!

I agree most ethnic shops sell a good variety of rice. Aldi also sells Basmati rice which is a good price.Ritz.
