Dear all,
I had a look at coop and a local supermarket but i did'nt find some rice. I mean dry rice not Uncle Ben's, since they are in a vacuum box and has some water inside. I just found one brand of Basmati imported from Pakistan.

anybody has seen other brands at other markets?

Ethnic stores ( Sri Lankan for example ) sell them.

I'm confused, I get rice at Coop all the time.

Sure there are "precooked" Uncle Ben's packets (and some "boil in bag" Uncle Ben some places too) but there should also be (depends on the location) two or three types of rice suitable for rissoto as well as some "US Style" parboiled, some basmati, some jasmine rice and some perfume rice. Some of those even are in both normal Coop brands as well as "Fair Trade" brands.

Coop have a vast selection .... but only for Supercard holders.

If you show your Coop Supercard to a member of staff, they will show you into a private members only room where they have many different varieties from the sub-continent and far east.

Barkat at Schmiede Wiedikon or at the other place they have.

Has (among a lot of other things) a large selection of Basmati-rice in different price-categories.
Also probably a good source for meat, if your are Muslim (didn't see any pork there, but lot's of lamb etc.).
I bought a large (2kg) lamb-gigot from them a couple of weeks ago - after trimming some fat from it, I slow-cooked it for a couple of hours and it was superb. For 17 CHF/kg. In Migros, you pay 40 or more.

They don't have a website, but the prices can compete with Aldi.
(Maybe that's the reason...).

Smaller coops do have an over abundance of processed rice products... Uncle Ben's and parboiled rice in packets. I've had a tough time finding plain old basmati rice in my local coop at times. So I can sort of understand the op's issue. You just have to look carefully through the selection or find an ethnic store.

OP, this is a joke! Coop and Migros do have rice but much of it is parboiled or in ready portioned silly bags. But you have found the right section so unless you were in a tiny Coop pronto, just keep looking on the shelves and you will find it. But you will get a better selection (and better price) at one of the ethnic stores.

Virtually every food shop I've been in sells rice. Some of the larger shops have a bewildering variety (though I'm easily bewildered).

Admittedly, this is in Basel, a major city. But I'd have thought even a backwater like Zürich would have rice somewhere.
