Pecans

Hello,

I'm new in the forum (although I have been lurking for a while) and have come across a question that has not yet been answered here, as far as I could see. Can one buy pecans in Switzerland? I know they are mostly only grown in North and Central America, but I didn't know if they are perhaps imported here. I've been looking to try a few recipes from home that call for them.

Re: Pecans

Yes, you can get them in (most) Migros or Coop stores. They are called "Pecannüsse" and sold in the baking section with the other nuts and dried fruit.

Re: Pecans

Thanks! I checked the Coop near me, but they didn't have them, but it is a smaller one so I guess I will have to check out one of the larger ones.

Re: Pecans

I've picked up a few recipes lately which call for pecans and am having a hard time finding them anywhere. I wonder if they get them in "special" for holiday desserts and that's why they were relatively easy to find last fall.

I've looked in all my usual places - Coop, Aldi and Migros, to no avail. Maybe I need to hit the larger Coop and Migros locations? The ones I've been to lately are not tiny, but they're not the mega ones either.

Has anyone happened to notice pecans available recently?

Re: Pecans

I buy them frequently from the Coop.
They're shelled and sold in red 150gr. packets.
The label says 'Pekan - Noix de pecan and Noci di pecan'.
They are normally with the raisins and almonds.
On the bottom shelf next to to macademia nuts.

Re: Pecans

They have them in Globus with the added advantage that they cost more than in Migros...

Ah, okay, thanks! This, in my (most) local Coop would be nearby but not exactly "with" the other nuts which are commonly used for baking here. Will check it out tonight (and maybe hit a larger Coop sometime this week if they don't have it at "mine").

Re: Pecans

We sell Bolivian Pecans at our cheese stall in Zurich (as well as loads of other nuts and dried fruits). Price is 5.10 / 100gr, not sure how that compares but a lot of our dried fruits are cheaper than Migros. As we pack these ourselves we can also sell in 1 Kg bags for a discount.

And seeing as they are actually the same company, they are possibly, the same product.
