Where can I buy lower priced and larger quantity fruits / vegs?

Is there a wholesale produce market in Winterthur or Zurich that is open to the public for instance? I'm looking for something cheaper than Migros or Coop so I can buy in larger quantities for the week.

Also, has anyone tried home delivery produce sites like http://www.freshbox.com, http://www.biopac.ch/ and such? Do you get better value with them? I couldn't find this kind of information on their site..

There is a great turkish wholeseller shop at Bahnhof Affoltern it is called Barkat, there you really get good quality fruits and vegi for a third of the price.

Turkish shops, srilankan shops and Barkat of schmiedewiedikon are some places where you can have fruits and veggies at lower prices.

I think the answer is try and find a farm shop, we just found one that sells some produce and meat. We've just ordered 12Kg of cow for 28CHF/KG and it's less than 5 minutes from the house!!

This probably won't help a great deal for Zurich, but in Swiss romande there is Aligro, www.aligro.ch which started as a restarunt supply company, then opened to the masses (bulk food and supplies). Perhaps look for restraunt supply in the yellow pages for something similar in Zurich.

Re: Where can I buy lower priced and larger quantity fruits / vegs?

Last weekend I stopped by the turkish shop nearest to my home. It was in the Winterthur old town, and their prices there was even higher than in Migros or Coop! I was quite surprised, but I guess it makes some sense since they probably have to pay so much for rent in a relatively prime location. But still... I have no idea why people would go there when a small Migros branch is located just two doors down.
