Tempeh in Zurich?

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can buy Tempeh in Zurich?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempeh

I'm vegetarian, attempting to eat more protein and am heartily sick of Tofu. Though any ideas on how to make tofu more palatable will be gratefully accepted and implemented!

I.

On a serious note, though, being it an Indonesian thing, I would guess it is available in one of the Asian stores Swisspea took us to. Maybe you can join on the next one

Haha! That's awesome. I actually laughed like a hyena at work, so... thank you!

I have tried the asian shops I know (Lian Hua, etc) but will try to beg for a spot at the next shopping trip weekend Swisspea organises!

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

I have found it on occasion at the Asian food shop in the HB. It isn't always there and doesn't always look too great. Their tofu, though, is great, especially if you are buying tofu at migro or coop. If they don't have any (look in the refrigerated section on the left on the back wall), just ask - they are really helpful.

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

I was also looking for tempeh and I couldn't find it at some asian store in Vaud area. A friend of mine told me that I should check a bio shop. And, I got it from bio shop in Romanel Sur Lausanne. They have ready stock tempe in a can and for fresh tempe I have to order it at least 1 day before I can pick it up.

So maybe you can try bio shop in your area??

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

I realize this is an old thread, but I too was searching for Tempeh and found two sources. I'm in Lausanne, and found tempeh at this store:
http://www.magbio.ch/data/magbio/index.html

I'm not sure they deliver to Zurich, but you could call and ask where you could find it in your area. This tempeh is sold in smaller pieces in jars in a liquid...so not sure if it is too fresh, but good enough if you are desperate for it.

I also have ordered it from here:
http://futur-natur.ch/Webshop/ws_tempeh.htm

This Tempeh comes in blocks and are vacuum sealed and fresh! Which I liked better. Just make sure you use it right away because the older it gets the harder it is to cut/cook without it falling apart.

Better alternative for you since you can have it sent to you instead of driving to Lausanne.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions about getting vegetarian/vegan products in Switzerland, feel free to message me. I myself am not vegetarian or vegan, but my wife is. So we have found a lot of methods to vary her diet as it's not as easy as in the US or UK.

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

Hi InShan,

I am a 24-year-old French student who just arrived in St Gallen to finish my masters in HSG.
I spent 1,5 yrs in Indonesia (1 exchange year + 1 internship) and I just come back from 1 month apprenticeship learning how to make tempeh from an Indonesian professional.
I make it for my personal consumption but if you are still interested, I could send you some.
Let me know
Best,

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

In case someone else is looking, my local muller reformhaus did not have it but went to reformhaus Vier linden http://www.vze.ch/Einrichtungen/Vier-Linden.15.html (also a bakery and cafe) which ordered it for me with next day delivery!

Cannot comment the taste yet as need to marinate/prepare it but looks very fresh.

Soyana does not seem to produce tempeh or at least I did not find anything about it on their site.

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

You can always get it at the Hiltl "Metzgerei" (not the restaurant) on St. Annagasse in ZH.

Re: Tempeh in Zurich?

Lian Hua in Zurich usually has it, and the asian shop in HB too, though the latter sells the frozen ones.
