Re: Nutella

I've always wondered how they got away with their ads that I've seen in the UK. Making it sound like a healthy breakfast. Don't remember the exact amounts but something like it gives you 2 tablespoons of milk and half a hazlenut. WOW!! What about the sugar and the fat??

I of course love Nutella but never try to kid myself that it is healthy.

Re: Nutella

From Wiki:

Ingredients

According to the product label, the main ingredients of Nutella are sugar and vegetable oils (mostly palm oil[5]), followed by hazelnut, cocoa solids and skimmed milk. Nutella is marketed as "hazelnut cream" in many countries. Under Italian law, it cannot be labeled as a chocolate cream, as it does not meet minimum cocoa solids concentration criteria. About half of the calories in Nutella come from fat (11 g in a 37 g serving, or 99 kcal out of 200 kcal) and about 40% of the calories come from sugar (20 g, 80 kcal).[6]

Yuk, disgusting stuff- even though I just love hazelnuts! Full of Palm Oil which is the main culprit in deforestation - so worth boycotting just on this count (click on it to find out the facts) It will save your health and perhaps more importantly, help the orang-outangs!

Re: Nutella

Pizza may not be a vegetable, but you can put vegies on it! Personally, I prefer meat, cheese and fruit on my pizza ... oh, okay, lots of onion too.

I, personally, don't care if nutella is 'healthy' or not as I just don't like the taste. Still, if you go the "it's healthy because it contains x" route, then you can claim beer is healthy - it's mostly water with some herbs, gotta be good for you! (Tastes a lot better than nutella, too ...).

You'll get no arguments from me in theory... but in reality, boycotting palm oil is no easy feat.

Palm oil and palm kernel oil are in a LOT of products that you wouldn't even think to look in, and not just food products, either.

Re: Nutella

Nutella eaten directly from the jar with a spoon (yes i have my own personal jar) is perfect. Especially when you need extra energy and have no time to eat something proper

I think the obvious solution would be nutella on pizza: your nutrients and vegatables!

I love ovomaltine. So I bought a jar of the spread...what's not to love? Sadly we are not compatible. Whatever sort of oil that's in there makes my mouth feel like it's coated with something yucky. I guess it's an acquired taste I can't acquire. Oh well.

Re: Nutella

I have boycotted Nutella also. Not because of the nutritional content, or lack thereof, nor even the palm oil/deforestation issue, but simply because no matter how high I put the jar little fingers will still get to it.

I have walked into the kitchen to find my 5yo on tippy toes on top of his child's stool balanced on top of a kitchen chair, with tongs in hand reaching into the cupboard.

My worst Nutella experience however was finding little Nutella footprints and fingerprints down the hallway that led to two giggling sugar-filled youngsters hiding in the corner holding the jar and two spoons.

Too bad you didn't take a picture...

Makes me remember the Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs in chocolate milk... "The second bowl is the best. The pleasure of the first one is diminished by the anticipation of future bowls and by the end of the third bowl I usually feel sick".

Wow, the News didn't say it was a vegtable but healthy as vegtables when it's loaded with vegetables. Funny how people only read the headlines.

Funny how some people are so serious on a thread about Nutella. Not the end of the world is it? We all KNOW that Nutella is not a healthfood & that pizza is not a vegetable & that water actually does prevent dehydration.
