making a chicken instead of a turkey but all the other key ingredients are happily there...cranberry wine sauce, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, green beans...i love the day and especially sharing it with friends- it's a fine reason to celebrate

Can't be carrying things like turkeys so it's turkey legs for us, stuffing, green bean casserole, & pumpkin pie....and God help me if I can actually eat anything after cooking it because there's just no more room in there!

We're celebrating with friends on Saturday. This year they're in charge of the bird and we're bringing some sides and desserts: our famous pineapple cranberry sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, deep dish apple pie, and mini pumpkin cheesecakes.

3 cups of cranberries
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
3 table spoons of Becel or (softened) butter
Dr Oetker Vanilla flavoring 4ml.
2 cups flour

Beat butter/margarine and sugar in a bowl, add eggs, add flour and baking powder, and once the mixture get creamy, add milk. Finally add the cranberries and the flavoring. Pour into greased baking form. Bake at 175 degrees for app. 40 mins.

We used to do it the Saturday before or after (my wife was Canadian, so we could never do it on the right date anyway), but as we also do a second turkey in December, and that kept getting moved back until some years I was doing two turkeys a week apart!

So now we've combined the two, and do it up north in early December, but also on a Sunday due to my daughter's work schedule, and in the afternoon due to our friend's work schedule (early Monday start).

This year we'll head up early, as the 8th's a holiday (and we're doing it on the 11th), so we can get some shopping done in ZH.

Yay, Thanksgiving dinner for my WG and friends this Saturday!

Turkey, stuffing, cranberry chutney, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, creamed peas with mushrooms, cornbread, pumpkin pie, blueberry muffins.

Is it too early for eggnog? I just love this stuff and I'm looking for any excuse to be making it... Well... it already seems like Christmas in all the stores, so I will probably be going for it!

Could someone enlighten me about the "Sweet potatoes with marshmallows" please - I cannot imagine it at all - how on earth do you cook it???

Boil sp's until soft. When done, mash and add butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, 1 egg and unsweetened condensed milk. Spread in a baking dish and top with marshmallows (big ones work best, cut them in half). Bake for approximate 40 mins or until mm's are golden brown
