| | | Where to get frozen pineapple chunks?
Hi, is there a specialty store where I can get frozen pineapple? I have looked
at Migros and Coop they do not sell frozen pineapple. Only blueberry and
cherry and strawberry and apricots.
I know I can get fresh pineapple, chop them, and freeze them myself, but I'm
trying to save some time and energy here. For my fellow Americans who
lived on the West Coast you will surely remember Trader Joe's frozen food
section. A lot of variety of exotic frozen fruits!
Thanks

You can buy freshly cut up pineapple chunks at Migros, and I think Co-op too - why not get some and freeze them....?

Agreed--can't you just buy cans of pineapple chunks, drain it and freeze it in a ziploc baggie?

Thank you all. The taste of pineapple chunks frozen at the factory vs
those that come in cans is quite different. Frozen ones taste much better.
Frozen ones are also a little more expensive than canned ones, at least
in the US.
It's like frozen corn vs canned corn; I usually get the frozen corn because of
the taste.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to live with more canned fruits and veggies instead
of the frozen kind.
Thanks,

This is a bit of a stretch, but if you have access to a car and a cooler, you could drive to Picard in St-Louis near Basel. The drive from Zurich is about an hour.

You can buy pineapples in most supermarkets here.
Why would you want frozen or canned if you can get the real thing? Am I missing something?

Three options to check:
You might want to check if they have some in the Nestlé shop. From memory, they have a lot of different frozen fruits.
Map/list of stores. Would be best to call first.

You might want to try a Migros OUTLET as well. Migros Outlet is where they sell end of line products. They had a number of different frozen fruits in bulk packs.

The third option is Aligro. The closest one to ZH is in FR. The ZH one will not open until 2012.

Perhaps he wants frozen because then he can have a whole pineapple "worth" of chunks without having to worry about some of them going bad if he doesn't use it all.
This is the main reason I get frozen veg, so I can make just enough for our needs at a go and not have to worry about "having" to have the same veg every night until it's gone in order to avoid waste.

In what way does that save energy?
Unless, of course, he's too far down the road to expend any energy chopping the thing up.
The fact that not everything needs to come in a packet is a bit of a surprise to some people |

Pineapples are never in season here. They are imported from far away.

Frozen pineapple is something I have never heard of and there may be a reason. Watermelon is also a rare fruit to think about freezing and laregly because it has a lot of water as such freezing it and defrosting results in a big water mess.
Frozen pineapple would resul in the same as tomatoes or watermelon being frozen. In summary the defrosting produces something not worth eating.
Berries tend to freeze and defrost better diue to having less water content.
This may not be the real reason but where in the world is frozen pineapple sold I have only ever seen fresh, canned or dried pineapples.

I dropped by the local Nestlé shop today and they do have pineapple chunks.
Details in the photos below. Not really a bulk pack but they are frozen chunks on a wooden skewer.

Been following this thread for 5 days now and no one has yet fulfilled my idea of a good answer:
The answer is simple. Bend down, extract "chunk" from porcelain channel. Wash under faucet, carefully wrap in paper towel before heading home and popping into freezer.
Simples.
Do you really need the internet for this stuff viewers?
