That may be because it's the American name. We (being "I") call it Pearl Milk Tea (or Pearl Ice Tea for the cold ones).

The "pearl" refers to blobs of tapioca.

This opened up recently in London:

Milk Tea sounds a bit like "Reis-Brei" in German and Ice Tea sounds a bit "realistically" like the well known "tea horribilis"

Re: Bubble Tea coming to Switzerland (at last)

I know it's not the same as getting it made at some tea-bar but I think I've seen packets for making it at the Asian shop near Burgfelderplatz ("behind" the Dominos).

I've also gotten cans of soda / whatever drink there, some with little (square) blobs of jelly in it which were pretty tasty.

Alright alright, but I have to join LiB in wondering why the opening of a "café-bar" for this needs more than 3 months

Back in the day, in London, when all the pubs were closed you could go to China Town and order 'Fizzy Tea' - you'd get beer in a teapot.
That's funny, Chinatown in Boston, ask for a pitcher of iced tea. Out comes a metal water pitcher filled with beer.

Re: Bubble Tea coming to Switzerland (at last)

I think I a ordered the passion fruit exotic. I wasn't overly keen!

Had bubble tea quite a few times, wasn't too Impressed with the popping one's next time I will order the milk variant with tapioca pearls on my ways to mrs teoh's. Better than not having bubble tea I suppose!

Re: Bubble Tea coming to Switzerland (at last)

I ordered one "downtown bubble" today from neumarkt in oerlikon and didnt really like the taste and the bubbles as i felt the cream/milk tasted like from a sachet and the bubbles were not chewy and big enough for me. Maybe because I'm Chinese and have had lots of good bubble tea before.

Re: Bubble Tea coming to Switzerland (at last)

Thread revival:

While wandering down near Barfusserplatz over the last two days, I happened to notice that there is a new shop for Bubble Tea that "recently" opened there.

If you care to go hunting for it, it's easy to find, right near the "Puppenfee" (Doll Fairy?) antique doll store which is on the corner at the end of the tram stop.

Re: Bubble Tea coming to Switzerland (at last)

There is a bubble tea store across the border in Lorrach.. I'm no connoisseur but I thought their green/strawberry tea with lychee bubbles was quite nice.

Re: Bubble Tea coming to Switzerland (at last)

I finally got around to trying the bubble tea at sabotai. I tried the popping bubbles, normal boba and both fruit and milk type teas.

Frankly, they were both gross. Swiss can't make bubble tea. It is the worst bubble tea I have ever had. Makes me miss the Singapore bubble tea we had last year! Even in Ohio you can get decent bubble tea. Alas... not here.

Don't waste your money.

While strolling towards the venue last night, I noticed a window. After further inspecting the various stickers and reading the writing, yours truly jumped for joy. Apparently, they are opening a bubble tea joint in Zurich, on Militaerstrasse.

Here is the link...www.sabotai.ch
I'm looking forward to setting up a bubble tea event, once the place is up and running.
Nice news from Militaerstrasse

While I know what you mean, there is just no other BB tea place around and you'll have adjust your tastebuds a bit.

Yes there is! Here in Basel - you can give it a try and see if it's better.

Oddly, this place closed down for whatever reason. It was always busy when I went. Does anybody have the inside scoop? Rent too hih? What happened?

Just saw a new Bubble Tea shop by Barfüsserplatz in Basel - in case some are interested

I´ve no clue what it is, but looked interesting.

Meant to respond to this awhile ago. This place was empty both times I went, and the bubble tea was pretty darn crappy. I'm pretty sure that is the reason why it closed down. Bad bubble tea is worse than no bubble tea!

This being Switzerland, any bubble tea is good bubble tea IMO.
