Looking for guinea fowl - Basel area

hi all,

there is no rush but trying to find somewhere that sells guinea fowl, either whole or cuts of. anywhere around the basel region inc DE or FR.

Any ideas? I have not seen any running around near farms either otherwise I would have a word with the farmer and stick 1 in the boot of the car

Re: looking of guinea fowl - basel area

We had guinea fowl for our Christmas lunch. I believe it came from Migros (I didn't buy it). It was excellent, if I do say so myself, although it could have been plucked a little more thoroughly (I did prepare and cook it - dinner was half an hour late because I had to go over the bird with a pair of tweezers).

Perhaps just try a large Migros or Coop?

Most exotic foods can be ordered in Switzerland, maybe they need 7 to 10 days notice.

You need one bird per person. You can probably pick a brace up at Supermarket in Saint-Louis

thanks for the replies - im surprised about the migros, have not seen it there but ill ask.

when we lived in africa and driving about we would see 100's of them running across the road so just put our foot down.... we kept a few, the rest we gave to the families in the local village - they were always happy.

Not after I'd finished attacking it with tweezers!

Back on topic, one per person! We had one for four... and had left overs.

I've checked with my mother... and yes, she bought it at their local 1 M Migros... but she thinks they may only sell guinea fowl in the run-up to Christmas.

I've bought Guinea fowl in France, but I'm not on the Basel side. Nonetheless, if it helps, it was at the butchers in Intermarché.
