Swiss Quality Counts with Coffee

Switzerland consumes 1200 cups of coffee per head per year. More than Italy!

The Swiss export more coffee products than cheese or chocolate - this thanks mainly to Nestlé. Also Starbucks buys all its coffee machines from Switerland.

Re: Swiss Quality Counts with Coffee

I drink two cups a coffee a day and, yes, from my Nespresso machine.

Re: Swiss Quality Counts with Coffee

I remember reading a similar report just after we arrived here in 2006 - they gave a table for coffee drinking in Europe and I seem to recall that CH had just knocked (I think) Finland off the top spot. Certainly what I would consider as the top coffee drinking nations (Italy, Spain - even France) were only middle ranking.

I was obsessed when in the US on finding quality espresso, even in SF it was hard...Here, I never even really think about it as you can find even excellent espresso at the gas station

For me, Suisse level of espresso is just a notch below Italy but both fantastic obviously...One of the many great things about life en Suisse

The Portuguese make a fine espresso too.

Re: Swiss Quality Counts with Coffee

Also depends on the metric, I guess. In terms of volume, the coffee consumed during the average Italian day hardly fills half of a morning americano.
Just got my manual espresso machine, so I am incredibly happy and I can in full honesty say that the best* coffee I've ever had away from Italy came from my kitchen.

* "best" here having the meaning of "I liked the most", of course.
