cinnamon rolls/buns - Cinnabon!

So back in greece i was obsessed with Cinnabon the store that sells fresh made cinnamon rolls!!!

I cant compare them to the ones Starbucks sell but does anyone of you have found any bakeries selling cinnamon rolls worth trying??

Re: cinnamon rolls/buns - Cinnabon!

If you find a place selling anything close to Cinnabon I will be so excited. I too love Cinnabon (though I rarely ate it) it's one of those things I would love to have as a taste of 'home'. The problem I have with most cinnamon roll recipes is the need for yeast and to let the dough rise, etc. I always lose my grip with the rising.

I've been toying with the idea of getting the "Blätterteig 500g" pre-made (refrigerated) puff pastry dough block at Coop and rolling it out, then otherwise following a "copycat Cinnabon" recipe for the rest.

Dough in question: (look ma, no need to wait on yeast to grow!)

Promising looking recipe:
Clone of a Cinnabon (Part of the reason I'd use a premade dough is because this goofy recipe deals with using a bread machine... which I don't have)

Re: cinnamon rolls/buns - Cinnabon!

Is it really that difficult to wait for the dough to rise?

I've made cinnamon rolls and they were delicious! I won't make them again though. There are only 2 of us at home and I end up eating them all.

It's not difficult. It does take time and it gets messy.

But if I can do it, you can do it!!

Yum, I miss cinnamon buns too. Now that my mouth is watering I'll have to go get some ingredients and give it a try...perhaps the silver lining in way too much time on my hands.

Just a note on this recipe from allrecipes.com ... I've made this recipe on numerous occassions. It is probably my husbands favorite... Just check the comments because you certainly don't need a bread machine. However, I noticed something strange last time I made them... I was making the dough for this and dough for Zopf. The recipes are pretty much exactly the same... crazy world we live in (gave this recipe 5/5 stars) ENJOY

Re: cinnamon rolls/buns - Cinnabon!

For those who don't want to make their own...

Café Brändli in Wädenswil, by the Bahnhof, makes a decent Zimtschnecken.

No, it's not a Cinnabon, nor quite the same as a US-style cinnamon roll - but mighty tasty nonetheless. And best of all, not a hazelnut in sight.

They sell out quickly - you need to get there early or to order ahead.

Re: cinnamon rolls/buns - Cinnabon!

I would really think twice before i use puff pastry, it the wrong type of pastry, cinnabons are breadlike buns. Puffpastry is too buttery and crisp. You will be quite dissapointed.

My Mom used to bake Chelsea buns when i was young, exactly like cinnamon bons but with raisins in the middle, sadly i could never replicate them

I would try a Zopfmehlmischung, the one from the reformhaus is excellent, 80% whiteflour, 20% dinkel.

Re: cinnamon rolls/buns - Cinnabon!

as promised, not that many people are following this thread......, but nonetheless.
The dough I set aside was very little, so I made bite size buns!! Smothered with a Caramel sauce, and topped with crushed pecans.

Anybody for tea?
