wheres the cheapest place to buy booze?

id also like to know of somewhere where i can buy british style bitters and ciders...

i know of denner, migros and the co-op... (in oerlikon).. is there anywhere else i should know of?

also, i cant find stella artois anywhere, is that available in switz?

I thought I saw Stella at the Coop. I am for sure there were Belgian beers there Leffe, Chimanay, so they should have it. If not ask them.

I've not seen Stella here, but you can get Kronenburg 1664 (not Belgian I know) at Coop.

I think Denner is the cheapest, have quite a range too.

Depends what kind of booze. We mostly drink beer and wine, and I always stock at Coop or Denner when they have their 10% off all wine specials. I am the one you see crawling home underneath two cartons of wine.

Denner also does weekly wine specials. They even have an email alert telling you what they are.

Denner have had some fantastic bargains in recent weeks in the booze line. Keep your eyes open for their specials when you're wandering round the shop.

Drinks of the World in the Zurich Mainstation have Stella.

i am a wheat beer fan, and i was recently turned on to appenzeller wheat beer (they have a several different varieties including a yummy hemp beer). anyhow, it was difficult to find any retail outlets, but appenzeller provided the name/address of a local beer distributor and the price was about half a franc per bottle cheaper than the stores. the distributor had all sorts of brands including stella (as well as bottled water). we just drove up to the loading dock and walked in the warehouse (it was not very large). so you might have some luck finding low prices and extended choice if you hunt down a beer distributor.

If it's dirt cheap beer you're after, Manor and Coop seem to be having a price war at the moment:

Manor:- XJ FIVE (Belgian) at 0.60 a 5 DL can
Coop:- Own brand Prix Garantie (Swiss) at 0.60, and Oettinger (German) at 0.80, both 5 DL cans.

The well known brands all seem to be over CHF 1.00.

Denner have 500ml Budvar Budweiser cans for 1.20 at the moment. For our transatlantic friends thats the real Budweiser beer.
