hi, just stumbled over this thread when searching for the nishi's store ...
you might want to add:
sala thai
zwinglistrasse (left hand when coming from langstrasse)
8004 zurich
small but very good thai store. they have a huge selection of homemade thai curry pastes
that are miles better than the packaged stuff you can buy. also spices, vegtetables, sweets etc.
motzer's imports
Baslerstrasse 102
8048 Zürich/ZH
pretty huge thai/asian supermarket!
a comment about lian hua supermarket at birmensdorferstrasse: absolutely go there if you need more chinese- than thai-oriented stuff, especially spices.
oh and then there's a tamil grocery store between limmatplatz and museum für gestaltung, can't remember name nor address.
happy shopping!

In Geneva, check out Multi Bazaar, run by Farooq Zahid, 12 rue de Fribourg
1202 Geneva
email: multibazaar@hotmail.com
or www.multibazaar
tel/fax 022 731-0000
movile 078-778-1212
This store has been expanding and for more space, moved to its present location down rue de Fribourg, just a couple of streets lake-ward from the Cornavin train station.... and is very friendly to clients of all colours, or should that be, all persuASIANS?.

Just want to add 2 Asian supermarkets to the list in Oerlikon
First one is right next to Berninaplatz tram stop, on the No. 14 and No.10 trams, sorry don't have the exact address but you can't miss it.
The other is at Bahnhof Oerlikon, coming out of the south exit, directly opposite.
Both have a good supply of fresh ingredients and I use them both regular.

The address for the one in Berninaplatz:
Lian Hua Asiatische Lebensmittel
Schaffhauserstrasse 269
8057 Zurich
BTW - if you do shop there regularly, ask for a discount card. I think it gives you x% of every purchase.
But it's a great place to shop.

Sorry Nanda, I didn't notice your post the first time round, its halfway down the list and i was skim reading - naughty me
I shop at the one near Bahnhof Oerlikon more often as its nearer but go to the other one for specifics as it has a bit more choice

Hi, have any of you come across pandan leaves in the (Southeast) Asian supermarkets? I think the plant is also called 'screw pine' (ouch) or 'Schraubenpalme'.
Thanks,
Nu-Yen

Hi Maggie,
You didn't say which part of Switzerland. But for Zurich, you just have to walk along Langstrasse and Quellenstrasse and you'll find most of what you're looking for. Naturally the freshness won't be quite the same. But of course, you'll also come across plenty of new veggies to try/substitute.
Cheers.

Thanks for the great list of stores!
Re the Oerlikon "Asia Store" (Affolternstrasse 10 - the one you can see coming out of the train station) there is also a branch of the same store in the Zurich HB. It's in a small section away from the main shops, accessible from the Sihlquai side.
If you're in the HB and coming from the other direction, go down onto the rail platform (21/22 or 23/24, escalator next to Drinks of the World shop) walk to the end of the platform and go back up.

As a Filipino moving to Switzerland soon, I find this thread very useful. Has anyone seen any Filipino stores around Zurich or Aargau?
