Manor in Switzerland

Ever time I travlled to the french part, I always like to go to Manor supermaket as they have great variety, food always very freshly displayed, great Vegi part, especially the sea food part, you see stuff that you never see in Migros or Coop. ( The best I saw is at Vevey).

Despite any comparison , I just simply wonder, why the Manor store in Zurich (or german part) does not have supermaket? At least I haven't seen Manor in Bahnhofstr has it. Or am I wrong?

Re: Manor in Switzerland

Seconded. Love the food hall at Manor in Suisse Romande and would love to find it or something similar here.

Re: Manor in Switzerland

There is a Manor on the Bahnhofstr, resplendent in all it's glory. On the corner of Bahnhofstr and Uraniastr I believe.

Alas, I don't think they do food.

Have you tried Jelmoli or Globus?

Try the food departments in Jelmoli & Globus they are even better than Manor & probably more expensive

Re: Manor in Switzerland

Globus I have a general idea of from Geneva and their fresh fish / meats weren't quite up to snuff. But I will give Jelmoli a whirl...

Re: Manor in Switzerland

Manor in Baden has a decent foodhall in the basement. It's only 15 minutes by train from Zürich HB if you get the express.

Re: Manor in Switzerland

Both Manors in Basel have very nice Food depts as the OP suggests, and a different range to Coop and the like, but from what I have seen (and and other above have pointed out) Jelmoli & Globus have very very nice (/different/luxus) food depts.

I seem to get a number of items from all of them on a twice monthly rotation! (eg only Globus has English mustard, only Jelmoli has ...... etc)

A quick search finds nothing to say why the ZH Manor has no food dept, but I can only imagine it is down to lack of space...

That is true,
Manor in Geneva had a great food selection, plus the restaurant was great for a quick lunch

Re: Manor in Switzerland

You see, one of Switzerland's mysteries solved for me. I had read about the supermarket in Manor and set out to find ours. Being in the Germans speaking part it doesn't have one (nor much of anything else really) such a promising display in the windows, but such a disappointing selection of anything inside.

Re: Manor in Switzerland

The Manor on bahnofstrasse has the Manora Restaurant in the top floor of the building and for the quality of the food it really is a bargain. Although you do need to know how to work the system. One big plate is the key. You get screwed going for a bunch of smaller plates.

My local Manora in Baden can also be good value and I can confirm that one big plate is the key. I've even been told to go back and fill mine up by one of the chefs I'm not so keen on the veg selection there, though I'll admit to being fussy about veg.

Re: Manor in Switzerland

I'm not quite sure what you mean by veg, but IMHO, Manora restaurant is the only place I've found in Zurich where you can find a decent salad bar, at a reasonable price.

I mean vegetables to go with a meat or fish dish, as opposed to salad. I've no complaint about the salad side of things there.

The university is pretty good too. And the view is by far better.

Might be a bit far for you, but for those near Luzern, there's a Manor at the Emmen Centre (just outside Luzern) with Food supermarket, and a restaurant on the top floor.

Re: Manor in Switzerland-- general info

A new three storey Manor has opened by November 1st in SHOPPYLAND Schönbühl, though minus food hall.

In fall 2008 a completely new Manor with all trimmings ( food hall, take away etc) will open in Biel, Zentralstrasse and the Manora restaurant hereabouts can be found between the Carrefour-Jumbo in Biel, close to the Motorway ramp(?Autobahnauffahrt?) to Zurich.
